Specialized experience at all grade levels includes: Installing, configuring, and maintaining Cisco network and/or security equipment. Experience in documenting network designs using Visio and other Microsoft Office applications. Experience in analyzing problems, gathering information, and recognizing solutions. Experience in a personal computer related field such as desktop support that demonstrates familiarity with the operation as it relates to networking.
Also, to qualify at the GS-11 level you must have one year of specialized experience that is comparable in level, difficulty and responsibility to at least that of the GS-09 in the Federal Service. Specialized experience includes: Interpreting data, recommending the methods and techniques used, suggesting new techniques, recommending criteria. Ability to interpret and analyzed packet captures. Understanding of the Open System Interconnection (OSI) model. Understanding of OSI Layers 1 and 2 cable plant systems and cross connect methodology. Understanding of the following tools: Fluke OptiView, SolarWinds Orion, CiscoWorks, access control lists. Familiarity with wireless networking technology. Aruba Systems knowledge.
To qualify at the GS-12 level you must have one year of specialized experience that is comparable in level, difficulty and responsibility to at least that of the GS-11 in the Federal Service. Specialized experience includes: Ability to make many decisions concerning such things as the interpreting of considerable data, planning of work, or refining the methods and techniques used or originating new techniques, establishing criteria, or developing new information. Knowledge of BGP and EIGRP routing protocols.
To qualify at the GS-13 level you must have one year of specialized experience that is comparable in level, difficulty and responsibility to at least that of the GS-12 in the Federal Service. Specialized experience includes: Ability to lead networking teams in carrying out complex projects, operations, or procedures. Technical expert in the area of data/VOIP/video communications and network technology. Ability to design network systems based on user requirements and past experience.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This position may require overnight travel of 2 days per month.
The employee is expected to be in an on-call status on a rotational basis. While in an on-call status, the employee is required to carry an electronic paging device and will remain within one-half hour travel time of their primary place of residence and will sustain themselves in an able- to- respond- and- perform- work condition.
If selection is made at a lower grade, promotion up to the full performance level may be made without further competition. However, promotion(s) will depend on the performance of the incumbent and are not guaranteed.
If selected, you may be required to serve a one-year probationary period.
If selected for this position, your appointment is contingent upon completion of OF-306, Declaration for Federal Employment, during the pre-employment process.
