The incumbent will serve as a Clinical Pharmacist for the inpatient and outpatient areas.  Primary functions will be the interpretation of physician orders, dispensing of appropriate medications, and counseling patients on proper medication administration and storage. Provides consultation to physician, nurses, and other health professionals on basic information about drug therapy.  Conducts drug therapy monitoring, participates in quality assurance activities and provides professional and technical staff in-service training education.  Evaluates physician orders as to appropriateness based on patient medical profiles, inputs information into computer system if assigned; dispenses medication in accordance with dosage form requirements.  Assures that all dispensing activities are completed within VACO and Medical Center guidelines.  Acts as clinical expert for pharmacy students or technical employees. Participate in rotation for evening, weekend, holiday, and on-call coverage.

Must meet the qualification requirements for a Clinical Pharmacist as described in VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G15.  US citizenship. Graduate of a degree program in pharmacy from an approved college or university.   Current and unrestricted licensure to practice pharmacy in the United States. 

Candidates will be evaluated on the skill and abilities referred to in the "Duties" section.

The target level for this position is GS-12.  This position may be filled at a lower grade dependent upon review and determination of professional standards board.   If filled at the lower level, the incumbent may be promoted upon meeting regulatory requirements and demonstrating the ability to perform the work of the higher graded position in a satisfactory manner.

When candidates are determined to be approximately equally qualified for a Pharmacist, hiring preference will be given to veterans and preference eligibles as defined in 5 U.S.C. 2108.
