JOB SUMMARY:

The FCC is an independent United States government agency, directly responsible to Congress. The FCC was established by the Communications Act of 1934 and is charged with regulating interstate and international communications by radio, television, wire, satellite and cable. The FCC's jurisdiction covers the 50 states, the District of Columbia,  and U.S. possessions.

This position is located in the Wireless Telecommunications Bureau, Technology and Systems Innovation Division, Gettysburg, PA.

Relocation expenses will not be paid.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • Serve a probationary period of one year, if applicable
  • Must submit a financial disclosure statement upon assuming the position

  • Must possess a typing speed of at least 40 words per minute

The incumbent maintains the organizational reference books and materials, updating and annotating as necessary to reflect changes in policies and procedures.  Alerts supervisors regarding problems, and recommends changes to effect effficient operation of the Division. 

The incumbent prepares administrative reports for use by the Division Chief, manager and/or staff members performing any required research and coordinating input from sources in and outside the office. 

Provides a wide variety of administrative and technical personnel management support to Division staff in Gettysburg.  Prepares requests for personnel actions and tracks the actions through completion.  Obtains information for managers and supervisors on personnel policies, procedures, and problems to ensure their effective exercise of their personnel management requirements. 

Handles a wide variety of administrative duties which may include, but are not limited to:  maintaining Gettysburg space allocations for the Division, arranging for office space and equipment, arranging conferences and meetings assuring all background material is provided, handling travel related paperwork and/or arrangement, developing and using tracking and accountability procedures, creating and maintaining an up-to-date and efficient filing system, and administering the time and attendance system for the Divisions. 

Receives visitors and answers in-person or telephone inquiries regarding the organization's mission, exercising a high level of discretion or tact. 

Controls and prepares correspondence using office automation equipment and appropriate software.  Compose routine correspondence in own or manager's name.  Reviews outgoing correspondence for completeness, grammer, spelling, and conformance with office procedure and instructions.  Assures that Congressional and other sensitive correspondence is handled appropriately.

Applicants must meet eligibility and qualification requirements by the closing date of this announcement.  Current Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement in order to be considered for the position.  Candidates must have held the next lower grade or have equivalent education and/or experience in the normal line of progression for this position for a least one year.


Specialized Experience:  Specialized experience is experience which is in or directly related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.

 

Applicants must have a minimum of one year of specialized experience in or equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service.  For this position, specialized experience includes the following: Coordinate and schedule meetings and conferences, and maintaining calendars; receive, screen, and refer visitors and telephone inquiries to appropriate staff; research files and other sources for information; maintain and update tracking and filing systems; and prepare time and attendance, and travel authorization using automated software/computer systems.
