Reclamation is seeking a tradesworker to capitalize on his/her expertise utilizing mobile equipment.  You can make a difference in the West by assisting in meeting increasing water demands while protecting the environment.

Would you enjoy ensuring the safe and efficient operation of Government facilities?  Responsibilities include maintaining, propeller boats, dredges, related equipment and operating a variety of motor vehicles.

LOCATION:  Lower Colorado Region, Yuma Area Office, Operations and Maintenance Office, Equipment Support Group, Yuma Shop, Yuma, AZ.

Relocation expenses are not authorized.

Operates a variety of gasoline and diesel-powered boats and equipment.

Tows barges, refuels equipment, relocates discharge lines in open water.

Operators 14-inch hydraulic suction cutter head dredge as well as equipment associated with mechanical sediment removal.

Transports personnel, materials, and equipment throughout the project area and public roads.

Operates engineering and construction equipment associated with the crushing, sorting, and stockpiling of rock.

Drives motor vehicle with gross vehicle weight of less than 22,000 pounds (i.e. pickup, flat-bed, etc).

Maintains daily logs and other reporting data required for identifying equipment and labor cost associated with the task being performed as required.

Minimum qualifications for trades and labor positions are determined by evaluation of Job Elements. You must meet at least 2 points on the screen-out element identified below and obtain an average of at least 2 points on all of the job elements in order to be considered qualified for this position.

Job Elements:
1) Ability to do the work pf the position without more than normal supervision. (Screenout)
2) Ability to interpret instructions, specification, etc. (related to mobile equipment operation)
3) Ability to drive safely (motor vehicles).

HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:

Category rating and selection procedures will be used for evaluating this position.  If you meet the basic qualification requirements, your on-line responses to the vacancy assessment questionnaire will be used to determine the quality and extent of your experience, education, training, etc., for placement in one of the following categories:  1)  Best Qualified, 2) Well Qualified and 3) Qualified.  Qualified candidates will be assigned a numerical score on a scale of 70-100 and Veterans with preference will be placed at the top of their respective category.  The assessment questionnaire will take you approximately 30 minutes to complete.

Working Conditions: Position is in an arid desert location consisting of high temperature and primarily sunny exposure.  Works in all weather conditions, often in open driver's seat exposed to noise, vibration, heat, wind, dust, dirt, blowing sand, exhaust fumes, toxic vapors and spray. Subject to possible injury caused by swinging ladder, placing of anchors, vehicular accidents, loading and unloading vehicles, or from hand or powered tools used. Subject to cuts, bruises, insect bites and stings, scrapes, burns, infections, and broken bones. Discomfort is experienced while wearing protective equipment and clothing, respirators, goggles, or face masks. 

Pre-employment Physical: If selected, you are required to obtain and successfully pass a pre-employment physical examination by a licensed physician certifying to your ability to perform the duties of the position.  This is not required if a comparable examination was required for placement in your current position and was completed within the last year; however, verifiable documentation of a comparable physical is required. Periodic (annual or biennial) physical examinations are required to be successfully passed for continued employment. 

Optional Form 306 (OF-306): Before final selection, you will be required to sign and certify the accuracy of the information in your application. If you make a false statement in any part of your application, you may not be hired; you may be fired after you begin work; or you may be subject to fine, imprisonment, or other disciplinary action.

Telework: Reclamation has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework only during an emergency or natural disaster. 

Term Assignment: This a 3 year term assignment. The assignment may be extended not-to-exceed (4) years and may be terminated early at the supervisors discretion.

Probationary Period:  Placement in this position requires you to complete a one-year probationary period.
