The Phoenix VA Health Care System is currently recruiting for Medical Support Assistant OUTPATIENT CLINIC.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The incumbent will independently be responsible for scheduling, cancelling, and re-scheduling patients' appointments and/or consults; enter no-show information; monitor the electronic wait list; prepare for clinic visits; monitor both inpatient and outpatient appointments for areas of responsibility; ensure that encounter forms are completed in order to obtain appropriate workload credit; respond to secure messaging and MyHealtheVet prompts; verify and update demographics and insurance information; processes all emergency and non-emergency transfer to other VA facilities or to private hospitals; and perform/ facilitate basic eligibility, co-pay and preauthorization requirements for specific coverage (such as TRICARE, sharing agreements, etc). The incumbent in this position supports all Occupational Health Clinical Services of the Medical Center and can be pulled to work in any clinic, due to low staffing or assigned consults from any clinic, due to backlog.

 

The Incumbent(s) will serve as a Medical Support Assistant and will be responsible to ensure they demonstrate courtesy and professionalism to our veterans, families, co-workers and staff; identify customer concerns and facilitate any necessary follow-up as needed to ensure satisfactory resolution; ability to operate computerized programs in order to enter, retrieve and sensitive information; knowledge of medical terminology  sufficient to be able to communicate effectively with both professional and non-professional employees in a variety of occupations and ability to work independently to service our customers. 

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

1. U.S. Citizenship.

2. Experience and Education:

(a) Experience. Six months experience of clerical, office or other work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position; or

(b) Education. One year above high school; or

(c) Experience/Education Combination. Equivalent combination of experience and education are qualifying for entry level for which both education and experience are acceptable.


GRADE DETERMINATIONS: Your salary and grade will be determined by the Professional Standards Board (PSB).  The PSB is a peer review process.  The PSB will review your individual qualifications, education, professional training/internship(s) and professional experience to determine the most appropriate salary and grade based on your individual accomplishments.

 

GS-5:

 

EXPERIENCE: Requires one year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-4). This experience includes, but is not limited to: scheduling, canceling, re-scheduling patient’s appointments and/or consults; preparing for clinic visits; and monitoring both inpatient and outpatient appointments for areas of responsibility.

EDUCATION SUBSTITUTION FOR GS-5 LEVEL: Four (4) years of education above high school. You must submit a transcript to receive credit for this education.
