To qualify for this position:
You must meet the requirements for professional education in library science or possess equivalent experience and education. More specifically, you must meet the requirements specified in paragraphs A or B below:
A. Completion of at least 1 full academic year of graduate study in library science in an accredited college or university, in addition to completion of all work required for a bachelor's degree in any field;
B. A total of at least 5 years of combined of college-level education, training, and experience. To qualify on this basis, you must establish conclusively that the education, training, and experience provided a knowledge and understanding of the theories, principles, and techniques of professional librarianship; a knowledge of literature resources; and the knowledge and abilities essential for providing effective library and information services.
In addition to meeting the basic entry qualification requirements, you must have directly related specialized experience in the amounts required for the grade level as shown below: For grade GS-15, you must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 level obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: supervising and managing library functions in a large, complex academic, research or health sciences library, within an electronic library environment. Experience must include managing operations in at least three of the following areas: public or user services; technical services; library automated systems; web technology and design; digitization programs; or institutional repositories. Experience must also include developing and managing budgets; managing contracts; allocating staff and resources to meet program needs; and planning or coordinating work activities, projects, or programs. This position has an education requirement. You must submit a copy of your transcripts (or a list of your courses including titles, credit hours completed and grades). Unofficial transcripts will be accepted in the application package. If you are currently or were previously in this occupation series you do not need to submit transcripts at time of application. - Well Qualified for those who excel in the evaluation criteria
- Qualified for those who only meet the minimum qualification requirements
Candidates determined to be Best Qualified will be referred to the hiring manager for further consideration and possible interview. The Category Rating Process does not add veterans' preference points, but protects the rights of veterans by placing them ahead of non-preference eligibles within each category.
