This position is for a part-time Endocrinologist physician in Eastern Colorado Health Care System, Denver VA Medical Center.  Incumbent will be a member of the Endocrinology Section, Medical Service and will participate in c l inical diabetes and endocrinolog y , clinical research and clinical trials and prior academic teaching of student s , residents and endocrine fellows in the optimal care of veterans.



·          C linical research and trials to train and mentor endocrine fellows, residents and students.

·          Serving as an a ttending physician in endocrine and diabetes clinics and inpatient me d i cine w a r d s , supe r v i sing students, residents, fellows and nurse practioners and certified d i ab e t es educator s in an academic medical center .

·          Conducting ong oing  clinical research programs in diabetes funded by  merit an d / or extramural funding source s with at least 2 peer reviewed publications/year .

·          L eadership in transfor m i ng Diabetes c a r e wit h in a hospital  setting with experience in face to face consultative practic e , econsul t , and TELE health programs.

·          O utstanding interpersonal skills to i nterac t well with patients, families, peers and staff.


·          Participating in Process Improvement/Qua l i ty Assurance projects and other administrative duties as assigned.

TOUR OF DUTY:  Candidate must be willing to work weekends, irregular work hours and extended hours.   The candidate must be willing to be placed, detailed or temporarily assigned to other related services and/or locations, if necessary.

Basic Qualifications - Required:


Citizenship:  Must be a citizen of the United States.  Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Handbook, chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3g.)


Education.  Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.  The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.


Licensure and Registration:  Physician applicants must have a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia.


English Proficiency:  Physicians, including residents, appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written english as required by 38 USC 7402(d).


Preferred Requirements:

·         Board Certification in Endocrinology

·         Must be able to qualify for an academic appointment as Associate Professor at the University Of Colorado School Of Medicine.

·         T en (10) years of post-fellowship experience as a clinical researcher and investigator.
