JOB SUMMARY:

Civilian employees serve a vital role in supporting the Army mission.  They provide the skills that are not readily available in the military, but crucial to support military operations.  The Army integrates the talents and skills of its military and civilian members to form a Total Army.

About the Position:

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ (USACE) New England District is responsible for managing the Corps' civil works and military program responsibilities in a 66,000-square mile region encompassing the six New England states east of the Lake Champlain drainage basin. The region has: 6,100 miles of coastline, 171 harbors with Corps improvements, 13 deep draft commercial waterways, 13 major river basins, and thousands of miles of rivers and streams. The District employs over 500 professional civilian employees, with several military officers serving in key management positions. Seventy-five percent of the staff is stationed at the Concord, Massachusetts headquarters, while others serve at Corps project and area offices throughout the New England region.

MAJOR DUTIES:

Conduct in-house surveys and develop control surveys performed by contract.

Develop drawings, plans, specifications for maintenance dredging of the New England harbors.

Plan cartographic material to include aerial photography for photogrammetric mapping.

Attend industry professional conferences.

Qualified applicants or this position must detail in their resume a year or more of demonstrated specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in Federal Service which provided the knowledge and skills needed for work in the type of surveying involved.  It must have required the use of the pertinent instruments and techniques of surveying. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include, but are not limited to, work as an engineering technician, soil conservation technician, or construction inspector.

 

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities) in the following area;

 

• Knowledge of Coordinating Surveys and Charts

• Knowledge of Mapping Requirements

• Ability to Supervise

 

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must meet the Time in Grade Restriction.

Time in Grade Restriction: Must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the GS-11 grade (or equivalent).
