JOB SUMMARY:

Civilian employees serve a vital role in supporting the Army mission. They provide the skills that are not readily available in the military, but crucial to support military operations. The Army integrates the talents and skills of its military and civilian members to form a Total Army.

About the Position:

Recruitment/relocation incentive will not be paid.

Medical malpractice liability insurance is not required for federal civilian healthcare providers as they are covered by the Federal Tort Claims Act (28 U.S.C. § 1346(b)) while acting within the scope of their employment.

May be designated as the Chief Medical Officer during short absences.

May require travel to other MEPS to cover staffing shortages.

Incumbent must be familiar with computer peripherals and associated software as needed to accomplish the mission.

Occasional shift work (before 0600 or after 1800 hours) may be required.

Occasionally may be required to work Saturdays.

Duty Location: You will work for the US Military Entrance Processing Command for the Atlanta Military Entrance Processing Station.

    You will serve as a Physician at a Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS). You will perform daily tasks involved in medically qualifying applicants for Armed Forces enlistment, re-enlistment, and offer candidate physicals for commissioning and entry into officer training programs including ROTC, HPSP, USUHS applicants, and physicals for active and reserve forces personnel (retention). The incumbent performs physical examinations of all applicants for entry in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard (collectively called the Services). You will also ensure compliance with OSHA requirements. You will review medical records, histories and physicals, evaluate labs, accurate profiling and communications with consultants. Assesses the applicant's mental and physical fitness for service in the military. You will determine if a more detailed physical exam of problem areas is required. You will perform life sustaining emergency care to stabilize applicants when needed.

    Minimum Qualifications:•  Degree: Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy from a school in the United States or Canada approved by a recognized accrediting body in the year of the applicants graduation. [A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school that provided education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the United States may be demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) (or a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country).] 
    •  Graduate Training: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy degree, a candidate must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in an institution accredited for such training.
    •  Licensure/Certification: Candidates must have a permanent, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States 
    •  Specialized Experience: Candidates must clearly demonstrate in their resume that they possess 2 years of graduate training or equivalent training and experience that provided knowledge, skills, and abilities for the work of the position to be filled. At least one year of this experience must have been at the next lower level, which would involve independent treatment of complex cases requiring advanced skills.

    • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
