The VA Palo Alto Health Care System is seeking board certified physiatrists for a full-time outpatient position based at the VA clinic in Palo Alto, California. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in Brain Injury Rehabilitation.

 

Candidates must have excellent clinical credentials, experience in musculoskeletal/pain clinics, and a strong interest in traumatic brain injury. Responsibilities include evaluation of veterans and service members who have a history of mild traumatic brain injury and persistent cognitive, emotional, and somatic symptoms; leading an interdisciplinary outpatient rehabilitation team dedicated to serving this population; and evaluation and management of musculoskeletal and pain conditions. Other responsibilities include attending general PM&R clinics, amputee clinic, in conjunction with resident education within the Stanford PM&R Residency Program. Opportunities for EMG clinic and research are available.

Citizenship:  United States Citizenship. 

Qualifications:  Must meet qualifications set forth in VHA Handbook 5005 Part II, Appendix G2.  

Education: Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.  The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.

Licensure: For positions involving patient care, candidates must have permanent, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. 

Board Certification:  Board Certification or Board eligibility by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation or the American Board of Neurology is required. 

Experience & Skills:  Extensive experience in the evaluation and understanding in general, acute, and chronic psychiatric disorders (depression, bipolar/schizophrenia, substance use disorders, post traumatic stress disorders). Knowledge in the diagnosis, evaluation, and management of patients with psychiatric disorders and their behavioral manifestations is required. Effective verbal and written communication skill; basic computer skills; teaching and leadership skills; and demonstrated ability to establish effective interpersonal relationships with all levels of people.

English Language Proficiency:  Must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by Title 38, United States Code (38 U.S.C.).
