EIA is seeking motivated and highly-qualified candidates for these exciting full-time positions. These positions are established to provide analysts to perform segments of mathematical, statistical, economic or other analyses projects, and to maintain and enhance models for use in simulation studies. The Analyst serves primarily in an advanced development capacity and uses standard techniques.

Applicants selected for these positions will perform mathematical, statistical, economic, financial, or other analyses and studies, maintain and enhance models, techniques and scenarios for use in current and future energy studies. The assignments are pertaining to the Energy sector or to sub-sector of it. The analysts modify and adapt techniques to fit situations, some requiring innovative approaches. Assignments involve consideration of the effects of new and emerging technologies, rapidly changing industry practices, mergers and restructurings, new regulations, and other changes in the world and national economies and markets affecting production, pricing, supply and distribution patterns.  Prepares reports and charts to document study purposes, methods, assumption, and conclusions. Participates in briefing officials on progress and conclusions of studies.  The selectees will compile, organize, and analyze data on energy and commodity futures markets and other financial markets, identify significant variables affecting energy futures prices, and analyze the underlying relationships between energy and financial markets.

You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement. Online resumes of qualified candidates must describe at least one year of Specialized Experience performing professional analysis work that involves economic, mathematical, statistical, or financial analysis to investigate data or market trends, identify and evaluate relationships among significant variables, or assess policy issues or options.

 

 ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS: Your online resume must demonstrate that you possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs/Competencies) (NOTE: Applicants need not prepare written responses to these KSAs/competencies, unless asked in the online application): 1. Knowledge of a wide range of methods and techniques used in economics research analyses, mathematical statistical analyses, and/or operations research and collection and the ability to apply this knowledge in innovative ways. 2. Ability to adapt, apply and utilize effective data collection techniques. 3. Ability to evaluate critical factors relative to assignments and prepare technical reports of findings and methods. 4. Knowledge of futures, derivatives, and financial markets. 5. Basic knowledge of hedging and options analysis, in particular as it relates to energy derivative markets. 6. Skill in articulating and providing advice concerning complex issues.


Operations Research Specialist Basic Requirements


Degree: in operations research; or at least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus.
Courses acceptable for qualifying for operations research positions may have been taken in departments other than Operations Research, e.g., Engineering (usually Industrial Engineering), Science, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, or Management Science.


Mathematical Statistician Basic Requirements


Degree: that included 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, of which at least 12 semester hours were in mathematics and 6 semester hours were in statistics.
OR


Combination of education and experience--at least 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, including at least 12 hours in mathematics and 6 hours in statistics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Courses acceptable toward meeting the mathematics course requirement of both above must have included at least four of the following: differential calculus, integral calculus, advanced calculus, theory of equations, vector analysis, advanced algebra, linear algebra, mathematical  logic, differential equations, or any other advanced course in mathematics for which one of these was a prerequisite. Courses in mathematical statistics or probability theory with a prerequisite of elementary calculus or more advanced courses will be accepted toward meeting the mathematics requirements, with the provision that the same course cannot be counted toward both the mathematics and the statistics requirement.


Industry Economist Basic Requirements:


A.  Degree: economics, that included at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus.


OR


B. Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in economics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.


EDUCATION FROM FOREIGN INSTITUTIONS: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the above requirements if you can show that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States (PROVIDING SUCH EVIDENCE IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY).
