This is a Pathway Intern position which is designed to facilitate transition and development in the field of Event Coordinator. You will perform various assignments learning the substantive work of the occupation.  As a student trainee you will receive on the job training to serve as an Events Coordinator for US Southern Command (USSOUTHCOM) and support all organizations in planning and coordinating major meetings, conferences, seminars, demonstrations, tours, and formal visits. Employee is the official USSOUTHCOM point of contact for scheduling all matters pertaining to official events in the Conference Center of the Americas (CCA).   Utilize a variety of automation software to facilitate various activities to support administrative and/or senior staff. Independently accomplish appropriate administrative requirements. Receive visitors and callers to the organization involving inquires concerning a variety of substantive administrative and/or technical issues. Determine the nature of inquiry, and based on knowledge of the organizations activities and administrative requirements, refer visitors or callers to appropriate staff person, take messages, and schedule appointments or personally handle as appropriate. Maintain CCA's calendar and schedules events. Assure proper preparation and timely distribution of correspondence and reports. Receive and distribute mail to appropriate persons based on addressee or subject matter. Personally respond to routine administrative and non-technical requests when possible. Assure proper establishment and maintenance of subject matter and administrative files. Maintain employee records for supervisor, posting changes as necessary.

Specialized Experience: To qualify applicants must possess one year of specialized/general experience equivalent to the next lower grade/level (GS-04).  Specialized experience is defined as: work that involves utilizing automation software in support of organizations in planning and coordinating major meetings, conferences, seminars, demonstrations, tours and formal visits.  Administrative and technical skills in receiving visitors and callers, determining the nature of the inquiry and referring them to the appropriate staff.  Maintaining calendars and scheduling events, receiving and distributing mail to appropriate personnel. 

 

For GS-05, only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.  

 

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities)in the following areas:

·         Knowledge of Office Automation Software Packages, Practices, and Procedures.

·         Knowledge of Customer Service Techniques.

·         Knowledge in Written Communication.



 

Other Requirements:

Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.

You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.

One year trial/probationary period may be required.

Direct Deposit of Pay is Required.
