The primary responsibility of the Medical Support Assistant is to perform all administrative functions for the Section of Geriatrics and Palliative Care of the Medicine Service at the VA Boston Healthcare System. Duties include the following: 

-Maintains knowledge of programs relevant to the Geriatrics and Palliative Care Section. Performs liaison activities with other Medical Center services on behalf of the Medicine Service to meet the mission and goals. 

-Tracks and manages training requirements. Reports deviations from VA policies and protocols. -Proactively track grants, educational programs, and clinical demonstrations. 

-Manages service goals and develops a weekly status report for the section.   This includes tracking and reporting clinical performance as well as utilization/volume of the service.  

-Generates annual report, and manages administrative components of the service including, but not limited to purchasing, contracting, credentialing, and time keeping. 

-Schedules patients for clinical appointments. 

-Coordinates staff meetings, and prepares agenda and minutes.  

-Performs special projects in support of unique or emergent situations that affect the service. 

-Uses software to execute several office automation functions such as storing and retrieving electronic documents and files; editing papers, reports, and memoranda; and transmitting and receiving e-mail.  

-Uses the Veterans Health Information and Technology Architecture (Vista) to access information in the Medical Center Computer System.

WORK SCHEDULE:  Monday - Friday - 8:00am - 4:30pm

NOTE:  This position is an AFGE Bargaining Unit position.

NOTE:  This position is covered by locality-based comparability pay.

NOTE:  Travel and relocation expenses are not authorized.

NOTE:  Selectee may be required to work at any Boston Healthcare System campus, as needed.
