The Department of Defense Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools (DDESS) is currently accepting applications under examining authority of 10 U.S.C., Section 2164, for the above position(s) in DDESS Schools. This vacancy announcement will be used for the purpose of filling this permanent, full-time position with the Camp Lejeune Schools, Camp Lejeune NC.

 

Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) is a DoD Field Activity responsible for the oversight of two school systems, the Department of Defense Dependents Schools (DoDDS) and the Department of Defense Domestic Dependent Elementary & Secondary Schools (DDESS).   DoDEA employs more than 15,000 individuals responsible for educating approximately 90,000 students in 12 foreign countries, seven states, Guam, and Puerto Rico.   The mission of DoDEA is to provide a quality education from pre-kindergarten through grade twelve for the eligible minor family members of DoD military and civilian personnel on official assignments.

The purpose of this position is to develop, disseminate, and evaluate programs and procedures for occupational therapy and assessment, review therapy goals and plans for each qualified individual, supervise and coordinate the occupational therapy program. Plans, develops, and organizes long and short range goals, objectives, lesson plans, and daily class work in a manner that will ensure adequate coverage within the time frame allotted for the discipline content and skills required to meet approved course outlines and curriculum objectives of the school system. Conducts classroom instruction using modern professional teaching principles, practices and techniques appropriate to the subject matter or grade level(s) of assignment. Maintains a keen awareness of student progress. Determines the need for, develops, and follows through on individual learning programs for students who are having common learning difficulties. Exercises continuous surveillance over the educational welfare of assigned students by working with school counselors, specialists, administrators, and/or school psychologists to resolving learning and behavioral problems of students. Maintains individual and class records. Counsels students on their progress in meeting the goals and objectives established for the class and/or the individual student. Meets and deals independently with other teachers, parents, and guardians concerning student progress and/or problems. Participates in committee activities to review, evaluate, and develop educational materials which will improve the education program or the climate of' the school. May be required to supervise students during outside activities, in the lunchroom, during bus arrivals and departures, etc.

Professional Experience Requirement:  Applicants must have completed successfully (1) an occupational therapy curriculum approved by the American Occupational Therapy Association at the time the curriculum was completed, and (2) the clinical affiliation requirements prescribed by the school.  The curriculum may have been a bachelor's degree program, a post-baccalaureate certificate program, or an entry-level master's degree program.


Professional Education Requirement:  A baccalaureate degree from an institution accredited by a regional accrediting association is required.

HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:

Your application will initially be reviewed to determine whether you meet the minimum eligibility and qualification requirements.  Candidates who meet minimum requirements will be further evaluated based on work experiences, education, skills, and training as they relate to the position being filled. Recency of work experiences, education, skills, and training as related to modern teaching techniques will be a factor in evaluating candidates. When describing work experiences, specific grade level and subject matter taught should be indicated on the application.

Positions under this announcement will be filled by appointment in the Excepted Service.  This is a full-time seasonal position.
