JOB SUMMARY:

Civilian employees serve a vital role in supporting the Army mission.  They provide the skills that are not readily available in the military, but crucial to support military operations.  The Army integrates the talents and skills of its military and civilian members to form a Total Army.

About the Position:

This position is located in the Flint Hills of Kansas at Fort Riley, KS. The incumbent may be placed at one of several dental clinics.

You will serve as an assistant supporting dental specialists. As a dental assistant, you will take preliminary impressions for study models, remove sutures, place and remove rubber dams, perio-packs, matrix bands, and wedges. Instruct patients in proper dental techniques, care of appliances, and causes of dental decay. Operate dental X-ray equipment to take intra and extra-oral radiographs. Retrieve digital images and/or develop and finish film. Pour and trim models from impressions, and construct custom impression trays. Receive and schedule patients for treatment. Obtains and record related medical history of patient and route patient for medical tests and services when required. Chart examination and treatment information to patients' record. Maintain dental equipment in a clean and operative condition, properly storing and maintaining adequate levels of supplies. Assist the dentist at chair side, passing instruments and materials to and from the dentist.

Specialized Experience: Six (6) months of specialized experience requiring application of the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the position being filled AND six (6) months of general experience. Candidates for this position must clearly demonstrate in their resume that they possess specialized experience which involves performing intra-oral procedures as directed by dentist; charting examination and treatment information; using dental X-ray equipment to take intra and extra oral radiographs; assisting dentist at chair side; and preparing surgical trays.

 

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities)in the following areas:

 

·         Knowledge of Patient Care

·         Knowledge of Patient Administration

·         Knowledge of Instrument/Equipment Operation and Maintenance

·         Skill in Performing Radiographs

 


Education Substitution: Successful completion of two years above high school with courses related to a dental assistant or dental hygiene program accredited by the American Dental Association's Commission on Accreditation. To receive credit for education, candidates must upload their transcripts. 

Combination of Education and Experience: If you have some but not all of the experience or education described above, you may still qualify by combining the amount of creditable experience and education that you do have. To do so, compute the percentage of your requirements met, the sum of which must equal at least 100%. (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of undergraduate education beyond the initial 60 by 60. Add the two percentages.) 

Only degrees from an accredited college or university recognized by the Department of Education are acceptable to meet positive education requirements or to substitute education for experience. HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:
