This position is located in the Legal Division’s Corporate Consumer, Insurance, Legislation Branch, Labor, Employment and Administration Section, Labor and Employment Field Unit, Arlington, VA of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and performs a variety of complex, substantive duties requiring a comprehensive knowledge of legal terms and procedures, including those particular to the labor and employment field.

- Performs a variety of complex, substantive secretarial and administrative duties requiring a comprehensive knowledge of legal terms and procedures.

- Searches, retrieves, and locates information from the Legal Division databases in response to requests from the Senior Counsel and his/her staff.

- Prepares summary statistical reports and records and tracks data concerning operations and activities of the Senior Counsel’s office.

- Organizes and maintains files for the use of the Senior Counsel and his/her staff, overseeing the file system to verify that correct procedures are in place and to maintain quality control.

- Reviews and prioritizes all incoming mail for the attention of the Senior Counsel. Reviews outgoing correspondence and documents for proper format, grammar, and punctuation.

- Makes arrangements for travel for the Senior Counsel and his/her staff, including preparing travel authorizations and itineraries, securing hotel reservations and transportation and preparing and submitting travel vouchers.

- Makes appointments, arranges conferences, receives callers, and ascertains the nature of their business, and personally disposes of their requests whenever possible.  Maintains calendar and follow-up of important matters.

Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the grade 6 level or higher in the Federal service.  Specialized experience is experience serving as the primary office support including maintaining legal files, typing and editing documents pertaining to legal matters, maintaining tracking systems, scheduling meetings and conferences, and making travel arrangements.

There is no substitution of education for the experience for this position.

1.  Knowledge of administrative policies, procedures, and requirements of a law office.

2.  Skill in using legal terminology.

3.  Skill in using a personal computer and software applications to prepare a variety of written material and generate routine reports.

4.  Ability to control correspondence, maintain a system of files and records and locate and assemble information gathered from various sources.

5.  Ability to make arrangements for travel, conferences, and meetings.
