JOB SUMMARY:

Area of Consideration: Open Nationwide to current military service members (Active Duty, National Guard, or Reserve status) eligible for immediate enlistment into the Georgia Air National Guard.

Position Location: 128th Airborne Command And Control Squadron, Robins AFB, Warner Robins Georgia

Type of Appointment: This is a full-time, Excepted Indefinite, dual-status position which requires Georgia Air National Guard Membership.

Job Summary:  This position is located in an Air National Guard Aviation Wing, Operations Directorate.   Aircraft include:  E8-C.   The purpose of this position is for providing ground and flight training, for developing, upgrading, and evaluating skills of Senior Surveillance Manager (SSM) and Air Operations Technician (AOT) crew members; to provide training to instructors and flight examiners on instructor technique, student assessment, and training techniques; to perform as a Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance (ISR) crew member performing Airborne Operations duties as a Senior Surveillance Manager/Air Operations Technician in support of combat, peacetime, humanitarian and Personal Recovery (PR) missions; to perform unit air operations related staff support duties.

Permanent Change of Station (PCS): PCS is not authorized.

Relocation Incentive: Relocation Incentive is not authorized.

Selected Reserve Incentive Program (SRIP): Acceptance of a Federal Excepted technician position of over 179 days in length will cause termination from the SRIP.

Background Check: Selectee may, at the option of the agency, be required to submit to criminal, credit history, and general background checks which will be evaluated by the agency prior to a final offer of employment and access into the Georgia National Guard Federal Technician or Active Guard/Reserve program.

National Guard Membership: This position requires military membership. It is designated for Enlisted incumbent(s) only. In accordance with AFR regulations, incumbent performs duties necessary to accomplish military TAG:Position Title functions in support of programs essential to state Air National Guard daily operations, training and readiness missions.

As a member of a Georgia Air National Guard unit, you will be required to train with your unit, normally one weekend a month and 15 days of annual training each year. Georgia Air National Guard units and members are subject to immediate call to federal or state active duty to meet national or state emergencies.

  • Must be a current U.S. Citizen.
  • Under 5 USC 2108 & 5 CFR 211, Veteran's Preference criteria does not apply.

The following list of duties is not conclusive but provides a brief snapshot of the duties that may be required of this position:

  • Performs as Instructor/Evaluator for the Senior Surveillance Manager (SSM) and Air Operations Technician (AOT). 
  • Performs as Standardization/Evaluation SSM/AOT Flight Examiner; ensures established standards of flight proficiency are maintained through evaluation and observation; administers scheduled and unscheduled evaluations during operational and training flights; analyzes evaluation data for adverse trends in performance; conducts flight evaluation critiques; recommends necessary changes or improvements; and develops testing material for evaluations. 
  • Performs airborne mission crew duties in a high threat combat and training environment.
  • Displays, interprets and discriminates between valid and invalid targets, using synthetic aperture radar, low-light television imagery, computer generated digital radar returns, electronic identification features, thermal, infrared, or other active or passive acquisition tracking systems. 
  • Operates and manages secure and unsecure communications nets with airborne and ground agencies.
  • Performs surveillance operations mission planning activities. 
  • Performs as necessary required mission planning and staff work in scheduling, training, current operations, standards and evaluation, intelligence, weapons and tactics, chief of staff, mission planning, combat readiness, exercises, safety and flight duties.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

General Experience: Must have experience, education, or training interpreting, explaining, and/or applying a variety of regulations and procedures.  Experience using computer and automation systems.
Specialized Experience: Must have at least 36 months experience, education, or training arranging or procuring transportation for personnel, cargo or freight.  Experience in non-routine pre and post auditing of freight bills, bills of lading, and personnel transportation vouchers.  Experience coordinating and negotiating with organizations/personnel both orally and in writing to resolve differences/problems.  *For positions requiring supervisory functions; experience which included responsibility for the supervision and management of personnel. 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs): Applicants who meet the eligibility requirements may be further evaluated by the Selecting Official based on the following KSAs considered essential to perform the duties and responsibilities of this position.

  • Knowledge of and skill in reading and interpreting computer-generated console situations and tabular displays.
  • Basic knowledge of operating data link requirements and communications systems.
  • Knowledge of and skill in emergency procedures and equipment.
  • Thorough knowledge of radar operation fundamentals, characteristics, and limitations of airborne warning C2, surveillance, and mission systems   
  • Knowledge of publications maintenance as pertains to mission crew positions.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of and skill in surveillance, target detection and tracking, reporting, receiving, displaying, recording and relaying threat data.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively, orally and in writing.


Other Requirements: For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, applicants must have a valid state driver’s license for the state in which they live or are principally employed.

For positions requiring a security clearance (Secret or Top Secret) the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment.

National Guard Compatibility: Once an applicant is selected and prior to being placed in the technician Airborne Operations Technician (AOT) position, the selectee must be assigned to a compatible unit in the Georgia Air National Guard as an Enlisted member in AFSC: 1A471.

Rank inversion is strictly prohibited.

Wear of the Air Force uniform as prescribed by AFR/NGB/GA NGR is required for incumbent of this position.  Acceptance of this position constitutes concurrence with this requirement as a condition of employment.
