The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, or FERC, is an independent agency that regulates the interstate transmission of natural gas, oil, and electricity. This position is located in the Division of Engineering, Planning & Operations, Office of Electric Reliability. This Division is responsible for identifying reliability-related issues within electric rate filings submitted to the FERC and for ascertaining that reliability-related filings are evaluated for their engineering aspects and potential impacts to the bulk power system. Staff performs the necessary technical analysis for input into FERC Orders in order to meet the Commission’s goal of protecting the reliability of the bulk power system. In addition, staff monitors regional long term reliability assessments; comments on backstop siting and other proceedings; prepares papers on regional, national and international emerging issues; reviews and evaluates renewable energy and demand side management issues; and assesses the impact on the bulk power system of emerging technical, legislative and financial matters. Staff assists in the fact-gathering analyses of events and disturbances on the bulk power system prior to compliance investigations.
