JOB SUMMARY:

Civilian employees serve a vital role in supporting the Army mission.  They provide the skills that are not readily available in the military, but crucial to support military operations.  The Army integrates the talents and skills of its military and civilian members to form a Total Army.

About the Position: You will serve as Student Trainee (Laborer) under the Pathways Internship Program for Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. As Student Trainee (Laborer), you will be responsible for performing manual labor tasks in accomplishing a variety of maintenance work.

Positions may be filled at the WG-02 or WG-03. These positions do not offer promotion potential.

 

Pathways Internship Program: The Pathways Internship Program is for current students and individuals accepted for enrollment in a qualifying educational program. It replaces the existing Student Career Experience Program (SCEP) and Student Temporary Employment Program (STEP). The internship program provides students enrolled in a variety of educational institutions with paid opportunities to work in agencies and explore Federal careers while still in school.

 

  • Moving expenses are not authorized, based on a determination that a move is not in the Government's interest.
  • This position is temporary and will not exceed 30 September 2012. Extension while still in school may be possible.
  • Veterans Preference applies to selection for positions in the Pathways Program.
  • Interns may work full-time or part-time schedules.

You will serve as a Student Trainee (Laborer) in the Pathways Internship Program performing the following duties:

  • Using a variety of command hand tools in performing simple maintenance or repair jobs
  • Performing routine maintenance work
  • Moving heavy pieces of machinery and equipment
  • Performing typical janitorial tasks
  • Cleaning snow and ice from building entrances

To be eligible for the Pathways Internship Program, the applicant must meet the following requirements:

 

  •  Be enrolled and seeking a degree in a qualifying education institution on a full or half time basis. Enrollment must be in an accredited college (including 4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges); professional, technical, vocational, and trade school; advanced degree programs; or other qualifying educational institution pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate.
  • Be in good academic standing with a cumulative 2.0 Grade Point Average (GPA).

Your resume should reflect training and/or experience that reflects the following:

 

Screen Out Element: Ability to do the work of a Student Trainee (Laborer) without more than normal supervision. Resume will further be evaluated against the following elements:

  • Skill in Work Practices (including keeping work area and equipment neat, clean and in order)
  • Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (other than blueprints)
  • Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment to Operate
  • Competency in Dexterity and Safety.

 

Physical effort: Work requires continuous standing, walking, stooping, bending, etc. Lifts, carries, loads, unloads and moves materials, supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.

 

Working Conditions: Work is performed either outside in all kinds of weather or inside in office buildings and warehouses. Work is by nature dity, dusty, and may require working around or with noisy equipment. Incumbent is exposed to moving objets and sharp edges with possibility of cuts and bruises and subject to noise and vibration from equipment.


Only degrees from accredited colleges or universities recognized by the Department of Education are acceptable to meet the education requirement. Conditions of Employment:

  1. Must be able to provide transcripts to the Civilian Personnel Advisory Center on a yearly basis

  4. Must be able to obtain and maintain a favorable background check and, if required by organizational assignment, a security clearance

 

HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:

Basis for Rating:  Qualified candidates will be assigned to one of three quality categories: Best Qualified, Highly Qualified and Qualified. Veteran preference eligibles are listed ahead of non-preference eligibles within each quality category.
