As a uniformed employee of the National Park Service, you serve as a front-line representative of the agency and frequently you are the first and only contact the visiting public has with an NPS employee. You work at an entrance station, visitor center, campground or other visitor contact station, collecting fees and providing answers to visitor questions about recreational opportunities, interpretive services, and concession facilities and services. You distribute maps and brochures, provide directions through the park and inform visitors of potential safety hazards. As you're responsible for collecting fees and following accountability guidelines for handling government funds, you must pass a required background investigation. You operate an electronic cash register, perform open and closing shift functions to verify money collected and stock sold. Other duties may include a variety of visitor services such as traffic control, radio dispatching or back-country patrols.
The Seasonal Recruitment Operations Center is currently accepting applications to fill up to 8 temporary positions at Grand Canyon National Park. Appointments made under this announcement are limited to 1039 hours (six months) in a service year. Appointments may be terminated at any time and can be extended if workload and funding allow. The South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park located in Northwest Arizona, approximately 60 miles north of Williams and 85 miles Northwest of Flagstaff at an elevation of 7,000 feet. Temperatures range from approximately 85 degrees in the summer to 17 degrees in the winter. Grand Canyon Village has schools K-12, a daycare center, post office, general store, banking facilities, churches, a recreation center, a clinic with resident physicians and several restaurants. The park community consists of some 2,000 people, including employees of the NPS and concessionaires and their family members. There are often employment opportunities for family members in the park and surrounding areas. Complete shopping, educational, medical and professional services are available in Williams and Flagstaff. Recreational opportunities include hiking, river rafting, fishing, cross-country and downhill skiing, and golfing in nearby communities.
Desert View is located on the East Rim of Grand Canyon National Park located in northwest Arizona approximately 83 miles north of Williams and 82 miles northwest of Flagstaff at an elevation of 7,000 feet. Temperatures range from approximately 85 degrees in the summer to about 17 degrees in winter. Desert View has a general store and a gas station. Approximately 28 miles West is Grand Canyon Village which has school from K-12, daycare facilities, post office, banking facilities, general store, and a medical clinic with resident physicians, churches and various restaurants. Complete shopping, education, medical, and professional services are located in Flagstaff and Williams.
The North Rim positions are located on the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park, 215 miles (4 hours by car) from the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park. The Elevation on the North Rim is 8,000 feet, with temperatures ranging from -5 degrees in the winter to the mid-80s in the summer. The North Rim is an isolated area with a small general store and gas station: basic shopping, educational, medical and professional services are available in Kanab Utah 80 miles to the North.
