The National Defense University (NDU) seeks to hire the Director of Research and Strategic Support.
NDU is the premier national security institution focused on advanced joint education, leader development and scholarship. Under the direction and leadership of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the oversight of the Director for Joint Force Development, Joint Staff (J-7), NDU offers a collegial and collaborative academic environment to support the joint warfighter by providing rigorous Joint Professional Military Education (JPME) to members of the U.S. Armed Forces and select others in order to develop leaders who have the ability to operate and creatively think in an unpredictable and complex world.
The mission of the Institute for National Strategic Studies (INSS) is to conduct research in support of the academic and leader development programs at NDU, and to provide strategic support to the Secretary of Defense, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the Unified Combatant Commands. INSS includes the following Centers: the Center for Strategic Research (CSR), the Center for the Study of Chinese Military Affairs (CSCMA), the Center for Technology and National Security Policy (CTNSP), the Center for Complex Operations (CCO), the Conflict Records Research Center (CRRC), and the National Defense University Press (NDU Press).
The NDU Director of Research and Strategic Support serves as the Director, Institute for National Strategic Studies (INSS) and is the University senior leader directly accountable to the NDU President to ensure research and strategic support priorities are properly balanced to both align with the NDU mission focus on JPME and leader development, as well as to provide policy support to the Joint Staff and the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD). This requires that the incumbent possess a strong ability to lead, manage, and coordinate a multi-dimensional and complex research effort across the breadth and depth of the NDU enterprise to leverage the extant intellectual capacity in the teaching and research faculties of the University's colleges, centers, and outreach components.
