In this position, you will serve as the Education Specialist at the Harry S Truman Library; Legislative Archives; Presidential Libraries and Museum Services; Office of Presidential Libraries located in Independence, MO.

As the Education Specialist, typical work assignments include:
Manages a variety of educational programs by developing plans, policies and procedures that guide, govern and promote program activities.
Develops and implements museum programs for primary and secondary school groups visiting the Library and in public and private schools in Missouri, Kansas and nationwide.
Develops and implements programs for secondary school students and teachers,  and for college and university students and professors.
Directs  activities of interns and/or part-time educators.
Coordinates efforts to promote use of Library's archival resources.
Assists in planning and designing overall programs administered by the library.
Develops teacher and visitor guides for new Museum exhibits.
Expands library's resources to meet needs of people with disabilities and increasing the needs of non-English speaking school groups and visitors.
Serves as a resource to teachers concerning questions of instructional methods on historical material and programs.
Represents the library at local and national conferences and educator's meetings.
Gives presentations to classes and other groups visiting the library and delivers historical presentations to classes in schools, colleges and other institutions.

Basic requirement: 4 year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor’s higher degree that included or was supplemented by a major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position (i.e., history, museum education, political science, social studies).

OR

Combination of education and experience – courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above.

In addition, one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level that included activities such as teaching and developing curriculum and educational materials in the field of history, social studies, or political science; or creating class visit and outreach programs in the fields reflected above, for a wide range of faculty and students at various levels, such as in a history museum education department. This experience should also reflect involvement in planning and implementing archival and museum studies programs.

Probationary Period:  You will be required to serve a one-year probationary period.
