This position is located in the Division of Extramural Activities (DEA), National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), Grants Management Program (GMP), in Bethesda, MD. The Grants Management Program is responsible for the administrative management of all NIAID extramural grant support of research and research training; advising scientific program staff on the full range of technical grants management issues; representing DEA and serving the liaison to the NIH on grants issues involving NIAID.

If you are selected you will perform the following duties:
As a developmental Grants Management Specialist the primary responsibility of this position is to learn the fundamentals, concepts, principles, practices and procedures of grants management analysis work by receiving on the job and classroom training.
Assist a higher-level specialist in carrying out a variety of tasks related to reviewing proposals in a limited range of areas.
Provide assistance in the administration of the portfolio including setting appropriate work priorities, applying knowledge of organizational needs and deadlines, and consistent follow-up to assure receipt of required documentation.
Perform limited grants management analysis assignments that are developmental and recurring in nature.
Use qualitative and quantitative analytical techniques in analyzing and evaluating grant proposals and awards in a limited range of areas.
Use a variety of standard guidelines.
Assist in coordinating simple funding actions that begin the grant/agreements awards process.

You must demonstrate in you resume that you have (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 level in the Federal Service, performing the following types of tasks: receiving grant applications and maintaining official grant files; maintaining records of grant expenditures and balances on hand and providing this information to program staff and other officials; compiling, summarizing, and reviewing program-related information in order to maintain project status and track program funds; providing applicants with information on various grant programs, including procedures for submitting proposals and the status of proposals; maintaining databases of program reference materials for preparation of program reports and other administrative documents.
Have completed one full year of graduate level education.
Have meet one of the requirements for superior academic achievement based on a) graduating within the upper third of the graduating class in a college, university, or major subdivision such as the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business Administration, based on completed courses; b) having a grade point average of 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 as recorded on your official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; OR c) being elected for membership in a national scholastic honor society.
Have a combination of post baccalaureate education and experience that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.
