JOB SUMMARY:

Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) is the nation’s fully accredited federal school of medicine and graduate school of nursing. This position is located in the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences (USUHS), F.

Edward Hebert School of Medicine (SOM), Department of Military and Emergency Medicine

(MEM).

 

The mission of the Department of Military and Emergency Medicine is to serve the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences (USUHS) and the nation as a preeminent academic center that integrates the study, advancement and application of military, operational, and emergency medicine.

As an Operational Medicine Education Specialist you will be responsible for a variety of duties with these being the Major Duties:

  • Serve as the Operational Medicine Education Director for military and emergency medicine and, as such, is responsible for graduate level teaching and training, management, and administrative duties.
  • Oversee military medical curriculum development, planning, and execution of field educational exercises.
  • Provide educational service and technical guidance, advice, and assistance to the high level management in aspects of operational military medicine.
  • Perform the full range of management functions including military medical exercise planning, coordinating, scheduling, and conducting simulated military medical field exercises (i.e., Bushmasters Medical Training Exercise) and other assigned projects.
  • Plan, direct, assign, and review work assignments.

Basic Educational Requirement for this position:

You must have a bachelor’s degree that included or was supplemented by a major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position OR a combination of education and experience that included courses equivalent to a major in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study.

In addition to meting the Basic Educational Requirments above, applicants must have specialized experience and/or directly related education as follows:

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the (GS-12) grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector developing curriculum for a graduate level educational program or providing guidance on military medical education policies and procedures. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.  Examples of qualifying experience include:

  • Teaching and training the University faculty and staff.
  • Developing graduate level curriculum.
  • Executing military medical field educational exercises.
  • Analyzing graduate level training/educational methods.

REQUIREMENTS:

Generally, current Federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level.
