The Alexandria VA Health Care System, Alexandria, Louisiana  is a Joint Commission accredited, complexity level 3 facility serving Veterans within 23 of Louisiana’s 64 parishes.  The Alexandria VA Health Care System is located in Pineville, Louisiana with community based outpatient clinics (CBOCs) in Jennings, Lafayette, Fort Polk, and Natchitoches, Louisiana.

SALARY TO BE DETERMINED BY THE LPN PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS BOARD.

MAJOR DUTIES:  This position is located in the Community Living Center (45B) in Nursing Service.

 

1. Delivers Holistic Nursing to resident/family.

2.Performs Palliative/Hospice nursing care within an interdisciplinary plan of care.

3. Accurately documents the patient’s status, utilizing the current standards in nursing practice.

4.  Administers medications in a safe manner according to agency policy and barcode medication administration procedures and documents response to prescribed medication.

5. Attends education courses as required to obtain/maintain/upgrade Palliative Nursing skills and Medical Center Mandatory training courses.

6. Provides nursing support with CLC units (Building 45) as staffing needs arises.

7. Open to providing care to patient/family in a caring environment specific to patient desires, addressing ethical and end of life issues.

Qualifying experience is successful nursing practice [as an LPN/LVN,] maintaining acceptable standards within a health care setting under the direction of a registered nurse [(RN)] or physician [(MD/DO)].

Current unrestricted LPN License.


Graduate of a school of practical or vocational nursing approved by the appropriate State [ ] agency and/or [accredited by] the National League for Nursing [Accrediting Commission (NLNAC)] at the time the program was completed by the applicant.

 

Must provide transcript of nursing education prior to appointment.

Current BLS certification.  Citizen of the United States.

Tour of Duty:  8 hour rotating shifts to include weekends and holidays. 

This position will be filled on a full-time permanent basis.  Upon completing any required probationary period, the position will be permanent.
