JOB SUMMARY:

The Department of Energy is seeking to hire talented and highly skilled student candidates for its 2012 Christmas/New Year's Holiday seaon.  This vacancy announcement will be used to fill Internship positions that become available through January 31, 2013. All interested candidates are encouraged to apply. DOE is looking for highly motivated students for holiday employment. Students will be assigned to one of the DOE PROGRAM OFFICES or DOE STAFF AND SUPPORT OFFICES. They will perform a wide variety of duties in the clerical and administrative fields designed to meet DOE's mission.

Qualification requirements vary for each occupation. The occupation and grade level at which the student is hired will be based on the student's qualifying education and/or work experience. Applicants who meet basic eligibility requirements for employment consideration will be evaluated for minimum qualifications as prescribed by the Office of Personnel Management. The following Group Coverage Qualification Standards apply: Clerical and Administrative Support Positions and Administrative and Management positions. Detailed information about these standards can be obtained at GROUP STANDARDS. A brief summary of the education/experience requirements for the various grade levels is as follows:

Clerical and Technical Positions: GS-1: Be in a high school whose curriculum has been approved by a State or local governing body, a private school that provides secondary education as determined under state law, or a homeschool that is allowed to operate in a state; GS-2: Have completed high school or have 3 months of general clerical work experience; GS-3: Have 2 years of education above high school or 6 months of general clerical experience; GS-4: Have 2 years of education above high school or 1 year of general experience; GS-5: Have completed a 4 year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, or 1 year of progressively responsible work experience equivalent to the GS-4 grade leve;l GS-6: have 1 year of specialized work experience equivalent to the GS-5 grade level.

Administrative and Management Positions: GS-5 4 years of study leading to a bachelors degree or 3 years of general experience with 1 year of specialized experience at the GS-4; GS-7 1 full year of graduate level education or 1 year of specialized experience at the GS-5; GS-9 master's or equivalent graduate degree or 1 year of specialized experience at the GS-7.

 

General experience is experience appropriate to the position being filled as long as the experience provides evidence of the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position to be filled. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position being filled. In some situations, education and experience may be combined to meet the total experience requirement.
