Applicants must have 1 year of specialized
experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the
Federal service which demonstrates a practical
knowledge of the subject area of the position
and of the methods and techniques of instruction
to successfully perform the duties of the
position. Qualifying specialized experience
must demonstrate the following:
-Experience conducting training programs in firearms operations and firing techniques to include designing training programs, preparing lesson plans, presenting material, and evaluating training effectiveness.
-Experience testing and evaluating firearms and firearms related equipment.
-Experience operating a range facility to ensure timely maintenance and repairs and adherence to OSHA and/or EPA standards and regulations.
-Experience monitoring and evaluating firearms and support programs to recommend improvements to senior Mangement.
-Experience preparing and presenting briefings on training activities and deficiencies.
Note: Examples of qualifying specialized
experience include: Teaching or instructing
in an adult education program, secondary school,
college, military installation, or industrial
establishment in the appropriate field(s);
supervising or administering a training program;
development or review of training / course
materials, aids, devices, etc., and evaluation
of training results; or work in the occupation
or subject-matter field of the position to be
filled that required training or instructing
others on a regular basis.
There is no substitute of education for
specialized experience for the GS-12

1. Knowledge of advanced concepts, principles, and practices of training instruction and techniques related to protective security methods.
2. Knowledge of the operation, maintenance, safe handling, and training procedures of firearms and related weapons.
3. Knowledge of security programs, operations, and techniques to include terrorism and antiterrorism operations, use of force, civil liability, physical and operational security, and dignitary protection in relation to firearms equipment and techniques.
4. Knowledge of health and safety standards for firearms ranges and training facilities.
