The IT Specialist (Network) has primary responsibility for quick response technical support and expertise for troubleshooting, development, testing, configuration, and management of networked systems for the transmission of information in voice, data, and video formats. Functions include security network monitoring and performance, diagnosing and resolving problems, making adjustments to ensure proper load balancing, installing, testing, maintaining and upgrading perimeter security network operating systems software and hardware, and ensuring the application of security information security assurance policies.

As an IT Specialist (Network), you will:
Serve as Public Debt's expert regarding the Bureau's IT communications infrastructure, and as such, interface with Public Debt, Treasury, Federal Reserve, and franchise customer personnel on matters relating to this area.
Analyze communications equipment to ensure the interoperability and interconnectivity to and from communication hardware and equipment components and that maximum capability is being achieved at minimum cost.
Conduct feasibility studies preliminary to application system changes, or proposed changes in perimeter security equipment to meet special requirements, by evaluating the benefits of various equipment configurations.
Serve as a point of contact with teleprocessing user organizations. Ensure that inquiries and problems concerning service are expeditiously resolved. Analyze customer use of the telecommunication facility. Develop and enhance automated systems to monitor the connect time of users, idle time, and traffic volumes.
Prepare and document the technical and economic data to support the acquisition of automatic data processing equipment, teleprocessing equipment, software, and support services for the activities serviced. Develop specifications for Automated Data Processing Equipment systems and programs necessary to provide information required for the evaluation of IT telecommunication equipment utilization and effectiveness.

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of the announcement.
GS-12, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes direct hands-on experience in configuring and maintaining routers, switches, and firewalls on a private network for the use of a commercial enterprise or government, educational, or other organization.
In addition to meeting specialized experience, applicants must demonstrate they have experience in each of the four competencies described below. The experience has to be IT-related.

3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
