Summary

In addition to the base salary, you will receive a 5.57% cost of living allowance for the Fairbanks, Alaska location. This allowance is subject to annual review, adjustment and gradual decrease.

Positions at the GS-6 level have been identified as one of the key fire management positions under the Interagency Fire Program Management (IFPM) Standard. This position has been classified as a Senior Firefighter (SFF), and is subject to meeting the minimum qualification standards for IFPM prior to being placed into the position. Duties

A Lead Hotshot Wildland Firefighter (GS-06 Range/Forestry Technician) serves as a lead Hotshot wildland firefighter performing the following duties: wildland fire suppression and control activities including suppression, preparedness, prevention, monitoring, hazardous fuels reduction, and prescribed burning. In addition to performing all of the above duties, provides daily leadership and training for the crew members. Serves as a working leader. May also lead additional technicians and detailers. Instructs crew members in specific tasks and techniques; conducts on-the-job training; distributes and controls work assignments among employees, assures timely accomplishment of assigned tasks; maintains work notes and records; reports on work accomplishments, ensures that the work is carried out safely; reports on performance problems and issues. Responsible for supervision of the crew in the absence of the supervisor.
