JOB SUMMARY:

This is an Air Reserve Technician Enlisted position.

Air Reserve Technicians (ARTs) are part of the regular civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service.  In addition, ARTs are required to maintain active membership in an Air Force Reserve unit so long as they occupy ART positions. As members of reserve units, ARTs receive on average one weekend of military training per month. In addition, they are eligible for 15 days active duty tour each year for which military leave is granted with full civilian pay. Air Force Reserve units and members are subject to immediate call to active duty in mobilization to meet a national emergency. 

This announcement may be used to fill upcoming like positions described herein.  Certificates may be established and used for 90 days after the closing date of this announcement. 

Retired military are usually ineligible for membership in the the Air Force Reserve.  Retired military personnel who have active Air Force Reserve assignments may apply provided they show assignment (position and unit) on their application.

The primary purpose of this Air Reserve Technician (ART) Enlisted position is to serve as a Resource Management Assistant with an Aerial Port Squadron, Air Force Reserve Command, resource and information management activity.   As such, the incumbent will:

·         Assist in the effective management of unit programs to include (but not limited to) military personnel matters, training, office administration, unit work group administration, deployment planning, and budget preparation.

·         Provide support in the preparation and monitoring of military personnel promotions, training, awards and decorations, officer performance reports, enlisted performance reports, waivers, career enhancement programs and unit personnel actions.

·         Conduct and analyze statistical studies pertaining to the effectiveness of unit training programs.

·         Plan and organize unit information management activities.

·         Accomplish tasks supporting military mobilization/deployment planning and unit participation management.

·         Provide administrative support in areas such as budgeting, reservists pay, supplies and equipment control, security, inter-service agreement procedures and documentation as well as general office administrative duties.

·         Provide training to reservists in accomplishment of related tasks.

You must have one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 in the Federal service performing work which has equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.  Typically this experience would involve assisting in the analysis of administrative practices and personnel management programs to identify and resolve problems and performing administrative duties in the preparation, maintenance, and monitoring of forms, reports and other correspondence in support of an organization. (To be creditable, specialized experience must meet the above quality level requirements).

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Position may or will require incumbent to: (1) Fly in military and/or commercial aircraft in the performance of temporary duty (TDY) assignments. (2) The incumbent's regular assignments are primarily ART duties: however, the incumbent may be assigned some non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities.  (3) Position may require a background security investigation to determine suitability for employment and/or a security clearance. (4) Employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends and/or holidays during emergencies or contingencies. (5) Meet and maintain Air Force Reserve military requirements.  (6) Must be a qualified typist.  (7) Work is primarily office-oriented with some physical exertions such as long periods of sitting, standing, walking over rough or uneven surfaces, recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching and lifting of light items.  (8)  Work is generally performed in an office environment with frequent visits to various organizations on base.  (9)  Visits may also be necessary to other agencies and /or base for purpose of training/conferences/investigations.

WHAT TO EXPECT NEXT:

Applications will be processed for rating after the close date of this announcement.  Processing time for applications is several weeks from the close date of this announcement.  Applicants will receive a Notice of Results (NOR) via Application Manager approximately 2 days after the announcement closes.  The rating on this NOR will be based strictly on your answers to the questionnaire.  You will receive another NOR via email once your application is rated by a Human Resources Specialist which may reflect a different rating from the initial notice.  Qualified candidates may be referred to the selecting official for further consideration.
