The intern will perform and provide assistance in the following areas:

  • Assist with the review of Categorical Exclusions and related environmental documentation for the purposes of NEPA compliance.
  • Participate in meetings and field reviews with Federal, State and local government staff to determine project scope and potential impacts.
  • Review the State STIP and amendments for conformance with Federal requirements.
  • Assist in the review and certifications of HPMS updates, HVUT data, and other annual statistical reports.
  • Assist in conducting a Transportation Management Area Certification Reviews.
  • Participate in on-site field inspections with FHWA staff and prepare the related reports.
  • Assist in performing reviews in support of agency programs and support FHWA strategic plan development and implementation of initiatives.
  • Gain experience with a variety of office programs by assisting other FHWA staff as assigned.

Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Hanbook; or five academic years of pre-professional study.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • UNITED STATES CITIZENSHIP: Must be a U.S. citizen to apply for this position.
  • SELECTIVE SERVICE: Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for the Selective Service.
  • INTERNSHIP: Must meet the requirements for the Internship Program.
  • PROOF OF ENROLLMENT: Must be enrolled at least half time at a qualifying educational institution pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate at least half-time.
  • BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION: Must complete a background investigation.
  • DECLARATION FOR FEDERAL EMPLOYMENT: Selectee is required to complete a Declaration for Federal Employment (OF-306) to determine suitability for federal employment and to authorize a background investigation.

HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:

OTHER INFORMATION:

If selected, you will be required to sign a Pathways Participant Agreement.  Interns will work during the summer and part-time work schedule during the school year while continuing their education. 

You will be in a trial period throughout your entire Pathways Internship appointment.   If selected by management, you are required to complete a Declaration for Federal Employment (OF-306) to determine your suitability for federal employment and to authorize a background investigation.
