This position is located in Office of the Director of the National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC). The employee is the principal administrative support for the Director/Executive Assistant to the Director performing a variety of clerical and administrative duties with a large degree of independence within general guidelines and goals.

Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience (Federal or other) equivalent to the GS-5 level that is close or similar to the work of this job. The experience includes activities such as providing a variety of administrative duties to support the Executive Assistant to the Director to include: greeting and referring high-profile visitors, establishing and maintaining office files and schedules, composing, proofreading, editing correspondence, distributing incoming mail, creating travel authorizations and vouchers in the agency Travel System; and assisting staff with coordinating work with internal and external customers. Part-time and/or unpaid experience related to this position will be considered to determine the total number of years and months of experience. Be sure to note the number of paid or unpaid hours worked each week.
Education is generally not applicable for the substitution of the 1 year of specialized experience. However, graduate education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position.

HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:
Your application will be evaluated first for the basic qualifications described above. The applications that meet the basic qualifications will be evaluated further against the following criteria:
- Skill in using automated systems including PeopleSoft, WebTA, and GovTrip systems to conduct travel, supply, and general administrative functions.
- Knowledge of English grammar, spelling, capitalization, punctuation, and terminology commonly used to prepare office written correspondence and handwritten drafts.
- Ability to communicate verbally with high profile visitors and senior officials.
- Ability to organize, multi-task, and complete various administrative duties with courtesy and tact, while maintaining professionalism.
Applicants who meet or exceed minimum qualifications will be assigned to one of three category groups based on job-related criteria: Best Category - Meets the minimum qualification requirements and excels in most of the job related competencies above. Better Category - Meets the minimum qualification requirements and satisfies most of the job related competencies above. Good Category - Meets the minimum qualification requirements, but does not satisfy most of the job related competencies above to a substantive degree. This category rating process does not add veterans' preference points or apply the "rule of three", but protects the rights of veterans by placing them ahead of non-preference eligibles within each category. A selecting official may make selections from the highest quality category (Best Category) provided no preference eligible in that category is passed over to select a non-preference eligible in that category unless the requirements of 5 U.S.C. 3317(b) or 3318(b) are satisfied.
