This position is located in our Outpatient Pharmacy section.  Tour of duty will be primarily M-F, day shift, however will be required to rotate through Inpatient section on a variety of shifts including weekends and holidays as needed to meet staffing needs.

Duties of the Full Performance Level are but not limited to:  Responsible to provide pharmaceutical care services to health care providers in ambulatory and inpatient care settings. Serves as a resource for pharmacy staff, physicians, nurses, and other allied health care providers in all aspects of clinical pharmacy, which includes providing comprehensive formal and informal educational programs.  Provides clinical care during all hours of inpatient and outpatient pharmacy operation responsibilities. Reviews patients' medical records and interviews patients to detect drug related problems. Interviews patients to elicit medication history and determine the appropriate pharmacotherapeutic modality to be employed. Counsels patients and family members concerning directions for use, side effects, proper storage, precautions and the need to strictly follow the regimen.  Assesses the patients' response to the treatment modality employed. Refers patients needing special attention to the appropriate service or specialty.

Citizenship:  US Citizenship  

Education:  Graduate of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited College or School of Pharmacy with a baccalaureate degree in pharmacy (BS Pharmacy) and/or a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree. 

Licensure: Full, current and unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia.

English Language Proficiency: Pharmacists must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and 7407(d)


GS-11:  None beyond the basic requirements.  Pharmacists at this grade level serve in a developmental capacity.

GS-12:  In addition to meeting the basic requirements, candidates must meet one of the following:

  • 1 year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level OR
  • Completion of an ACPE-accredited Pharm.D. program.
