The Northern Arizona Veterans Affairs Health Care System in Prescott, Arizona is recruiting for four intermittent Nursing Assistants to cover various shifts and specialties.  The Nursing Assistant provides basic nursing care to patients. Performs basic personal nursing care which includes feeding, bathing, lifting, oral hygiene, fingernail care, hair care, and other related personal hygiene duties (i.e. peri and foley care and linen changes). Performs a variety of diagnostic support duties such as taking and recording temperatures, pulses, respirations and blood pressures, and reports any deviation from normal to the registered nurse.  Weighs and measures patients. Measures and records oral intake and output. Performs basic standardized procedures, such as applying hot and cold packs, applying dressings and bandages (arm slings, abdominal bandages), applying external catheters, caring for patients on infection precautions, applying salves, ointments and powders as directed, setting up and assisting in giving treatments, observing intravenous solutions and notifying RN when fluids are running low. Participates in rehabilitation programs such as ambulation and passive and active exercises. Administers CPR and Abdominal Thrust (choke procedure) in emergency situations. Documents observations, treatments, procedures and patient teaching using the SBAR format. Instructs patient in daily living activities such as shaving, showering, and other related personal hygiene activities. Reinforces instructions given by the registered nurse or licensed practical nurse. Reinforces rehabilitation program instructions such as transfer, ambulation, crutch walking and other exercise. Participates in accident and fire prevention programs. Uses proper body mechanics at all times. Escorts patients to appointments. 

 

Tour of duty:  Dependent on the needs of the facility.

GRADE DETERMINATIONS:

You must have specialized experience at a level close to the work of this job that has given you the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities required to successfully perform.  Typically we would find this experience in work within this field or a field that is closely related.

 

GS-04 - Six months general and six months specialized experience or 2 years of education above high school with courses related to the occupation.

GS-05 - One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-4 level or a 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with courses related to the occupation, if required.
