  • Monitor work sites for workmanship and work progress in the installation of water and sewer facilities
  • Responsible for construction activities pertaining to the installation of water and sewer facilities.  This includes sketching to scale schematics of piping networks, familiarity with pipe sizing, layouts, materials, fittings, codes, and fundamentals of water supply and waste disposal systems. 
  • Conduct investigations and home surveys for sanitation and soil percolation tests
  • Conduct one-on-one homeowner training to program participants to ensure that the homeowner is familiar with the operation and maintenance of installed sanitation facilities. 
  • Prepare and present reports on worksite investigations, accidents, completion of construction work, etc.
  • Ensure all Occupational Safety and Health standards are followed

For GS-04:  6 months of general work experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the work of this position or provides a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of this occupation, and 6 months of specialized work experience.  Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: performing work directly related to construction; responsibility of interpreting plans and specifications; and inspecting materials and workmanship to ensure adherence to safety requirements.

OR

Successful completion of 2 years of study above high school that included at least 12 semester hours of courses in one or a combination of courses such as drafting, surveying, mathematics, physical science, industrial technology, industrial arts, or technical subjects pertinent to construction; or engineering technician work such as electricity, material testing, or engineering mechanics. 

OR 

A combination of experience and education.

For GS-05:  1 year of specialized work experience (equivalent to at least the GS-04 level in Federal service).  Specialized experience at this level may be described as work experience installating water and sewer facilities.  This experience includes: interpreting plans and specifications recognizing problem areas; inspecting materials and workmanship to ensuring adherence to safety requirements; sketch to scale schematics of piping networks or other construction related activities; conduct home surveys, soil percolation tests, and other investigations for sanitation facilities; maintaining a daily log to document instructions given by officials; and preparing and presenting progress reports on construction progress and work performance.      

OR

Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree (a) with major study in an appropriate filed of engineering, construction, or industrial technology; or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours of courses in one or a combination of courses such as drafting, surveying, mathematics, physical science, industrial technology, industrial arts, or technical subjects pertinent to construction; or engineering technician work such as electricity, material testing, or engineering mechanics.   

OR

A combination of experience and education.  Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours of a course of study leading to a bachelor's degree is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirements.   

For GS-06:  1 year of specialized work experience (equivalent to at least the GS-05 level in Federal service). Specialized experience at this level may be described as work experience installing water and sewer facilities.  This experience includes: interpreting plans and specifications recognizing problem areas; monitoring workers to insure safety requirements are being followed; sketch to scale piping networks and assist with surveying and staking; conduct home surveys, soil percolation tests, and other investigations for sanitation facilities; maintaining a daily log to document instructions given by officials; preparing and presenting progress reports on construction progress and work performance; set-up and use of data recorders, GPS survey equipment and level; and responsibility for work site contract functions.

WHAT TO EXPECT NEXT:

First notification: Once the online questionnaire and resume are received, you will receive an acknowledgement email that your submission was successfully received. Receipt of this email does not confirm receipt of the other required document(s): copy of your license or completed OF-306 Addendum form.
