This position is located at the Naval Medical Center, San Diego, CA.  The Nurse Consultant provides leadership, guidance and support to nursing services in completing the work of nursing in an efficient manner. This includes the development and evaluation of applications, tools, processes and structures that assist nurses with the management of data in taking care of patients or in supporting the practice of nursing.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • Provide day-to-day problem solving and work center support to users of the Clinical Information System (CIS).
  • Serve as the consultant for Nursing Services for issues dealing with informatics and clinical information management.
  • Perform annual needs assessment of Automated Information System issues by all levels of personnel, especially the Clinical Information System (CIS).
  • Track all hardware associated with the Clinical Information System (CIS).
  • Collaborate with other health informatics specialists, and clinic specialists from other supporting disciplines in the creation of application of information system theory for nurses and/or medical personnel.

Applicants must meet the following qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:

Basic Requirements: Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant. (One year of nursing experience as a military corpsman that has been accepted by a State licensing body may be accepted in lieu of education at the GS-4 level.)

Registration: Applicants must have active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. An applicant who has graduated from an approved nursing educational program within the past 12 months may be appointed pending State registration as a professional nurse within 6 months of appointment. No person appointed pending registration may be retained beyond 6 months, or promoted, if registration has not been attained.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

Experience developing and evaluating applications, tools, processes and structures that assist nurses with the management of patient data.

Experience serving as consultant for issues dealing with informatics and clinical information management.

REQUIREMENTS: 

Selectee is required to participate in the Department of Defense direct deposit of pay program.

Selectee must possess and maintain a current Registered Nursing license/certification.

 

Selectee(s) must meet any applicable credentialing or privileging requirements prior to appointment.

Incumbent will be assigned to a permanent shift, (8, 10, or 12 hours) but duties, clinical or clerical activities, or patient care needs may require incumbent to be available at other times. Weekend and holiday work will be scheduled as necessary. Additionally, there may be times when the incumbent’s skills may be necessary to cover absences or augment staff in other related areas for which qualified to work.

 

Work requires walking, standing, bending, crouching, stretching, climbing, kneeling and some lifting, as well as, moving items (15-20 pounds) on a regular and recurring basis.

 

Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time.  Must be able to change out monitor equipment and use a keyboard and mouse.
