JOB SUMMARY:

Civilian employees serve a vital role in supporting the Army mission.  They provide the skills that are not readily available in the military, but crucial to support military operations.  The Army integrates the talents and skills of its military and civilian members to form a Total Army.

About the Position:
Serves as Visual Information Equipment Manager and Presentation Specialist in the Directorate of Plans Training, Mobilization and Security (DPTMS) Visual Information Branch, Fort Hood, Texas. Researches, recommends, procures, and monitors visual information (VI) equipment, upgrade & repair components, and related services for the Fort Hood Visual Information Center. Participate. Plan for the routine replacement of unserviceable and obsolete equipment. Participate in the identification of specific technical requirements and research alternative technical and procurement solutions.

Fort Hood is approximately 60 miles north of the capital city of Austin, 50 miles south of Waco, 160 miles south of Dallas, 150 miles north of San Antonio and 200 miles north of Houston. All of these cities and those in between offer fine shopping, dining and nearly anything else you would want to do. Central Texas is the ideal location for outdoor activities. As a(n) Lead Multimedia Information Specialist you will:

• Be responsible for the set-up and operation of a variety of presentation and sound system equipment in support of briefings, multimedia presentations, training, and ceremonies.

• Participate in the equipment modernization planning process, including developing technical requirements; researching alternative technical and procurement solutions. 

• Provide advice and assistance to the VI Manager to help them with planning and approval for new and replacement VI equipment systems and related components.

• Analyze system interfaces between operating systems, hardware, and applications software to ensure efficient utilization of VI computer resources in both the current and projected systems environment.

• Represent the VI Manager on the Army-wide Configuration Control Board for the new VI Software, including installation, system administration, and interfacing problem areas with developers at higher headquarters.

• Work with the NEC to add and or update user accounts; use applicable helpdesk and Enterprise software tool to check and monitor user profiles; annotates all applicable training requirements supporting validation; and enables/disables profile accounts.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:  To Qualify applicants must possess one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade/level (GS-09).  Specialized experience is defined as: Technical knowledge to research and procure appropriate VI equipment, repair AV components, and provide technical services; knowledge and skill of various types of small computer systems and peripherals in order to install, configure, upgrade, troubleshoot, and repair Visual Information (VI) computer systems.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities) in the following areas:

  • Knowledge and technical expertise of electronic principles, including the ability to interpret technical specifications and schematic diagrams, and the ability to apply technical knowledge to research and procure appropriate VI equipment, repair parts, and technical services.
  • Expert knowledge and skill of various types of small computer systems is required in order to install, configure, upgrade, troubleshoot, and repair Visual Information (VI) computer systems.
  • Specific knowledge and skill of VI equipment, products, and services is needed in order to develop technical requirements and translate those requirements into operational equipment systems. (ex: Adobe Graphic Design and Photography software).

  • Knowledge and technical expertise to order many components from a variety of sources, ensuring they work together to create large complex systems.

  • Knowledge of US Army logistical procedures is needed to order, receive, and properly account for high-dollar equipment.

     

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must meet the Time in Grade Restriction.

 

Time in Grade Restriction: Must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the GS-09 grade (or equivalent).


Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related.
