This is a TEMPORARY position at the Sacramento Fish and Wildlife Office, located in Sacramento, CA.  This position is not-to-exceed 1 year.  The appointment may be extended without further announcement.  Maximum total appointment will not exceed 2 years.

This position provides a broad range of administrative and clerical support services to ensure smooth and orderly flow of office work.  The incumbent organizes, manages, and accomplishes a variety of standard and nonstandard administrative, clerical and special assignments that include:

  • Maintains an electronic appointment calendar for the immediate supervisor and associated staff, schedules appointments and meetings, and arranges meetings and conference rooms as necessary. 
  • Serves as timekeeper for the unit staff.  Tracks, collects, and reviews Time and Attendance records using an automated time and attendance program.
  • Manages correspondence and background information files, and maintains decisional file records in efficient and orderly manner.
  • Composes, edits, and types a variety of correspondence and provides appropriate review to ensure correct punctuation, capitalization, spelling, and grammar.
  • Uses office automation equipment and software to produce reports, documents, and correspondence.
  • Answers phone calls, screens and forwards calls as appropriate.

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet either A, B, or C below:

A.  One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-4 grade level of the Federal service, which is in or related to Office Assistant work and which provided the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to successfully perform the duties of the position.  Specialized experience includes performing administrative timekeeping, preparing correspondence in final forms, organizing file records, and greeting and/or referring visitors to appropriate staff.


B.  Successfully completed four full year of education above the high school level from an accredited college, university, business, secretarial or technical school in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite.


C.  Combination of college education and experience as described in A and B above which would qualify for this position.  Experience and education are each computed as percentages of their respective requirements and must equal 100 percent when combined.

TYPING REQUIREMENT:  This position requires the skill of a qualified typist.  In addition to the basic qualification requirement above, you must have the ability to type at least 40 words per minute (based on a five-minute sample with 3 or few errors).  This is a screen-out factor for this position.
