JOB SUMMARY:

The Armed Forces Retirement Home (AFRH) is seeking an LPN for its Gulfport, MS facility.

The AFRH is an independent Federal Agency which most closely resembles a private sector Continuing Care Retirement Community with a geriatric resident population of distinguished Veterans who have served their country. As an LPN, you will:

  • Administer medications to groups of patients and to accomplish specific nursing care and nursing team-leading duties as assigned by a professional registered nurse.
  • Perform nursing assignments of a highly specialized nature to include medication and administration and hands-on nursing care. Observe patient behavior and responses and records observations.
  • Use specialized equipment in the care of patients and instructs others on the use of specialized equipment.
  • Identify patient problems and provides input into the plan of care.
  • Administer many simple and complex medications via oral, inter-muscular, subcutaneous, intra-dermal, topical, respiratory routes, etc.

    Applicants ust met all qualification requirements, including the following, by the closing date:

    • Licensure:  Candidates must be currently licensed to practice as practical or vocational nurses in a State or territory of the United States or the District of Columbia. Applications must be accompanied by 1) a certified copy or photocopy of the license, 2) a notarized statement attesting to the fact, or 3) a citation of the license number and State issuing it.
    • Specialized Experience:  Fifty-two weeks of experience at the GS-06 level, or equivalent, that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience includes nursing care work in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other supervised medical, nursing, or patient care facility that provided a practical knowledge of human body structure, and sterile techniques and procedures.

    The experience may have been gained in either the public or private sector. One year of experience refers to full-time; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.

    SPECIAL NOTE: Long-term care experience and/or interacting with geriatric patients is highly desired.

  • Your application will be rated and ranked among others, based on the extent and quality of your experience, education, training, performance appraisals and awards relevant to the duties of this position.
