WORK SCHEDULE:  MONDAY TO FRIDAY - 7:30AM TO 4:00PM

Relocation Expenses: Relocation expenses  are not authorized for this position.

 

The Medical Support Assistant (MSA) position is in Community Living Center (CLC) within the Nursing Long Term/Extended Care Service at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System (VAPAHCS).

Duties include but may not be limited to the following:

  • Scheduling appointments, including interpreting and verifying provider orders in accordance with VHA nation scheduling guidelines, which includes scheduling, canceling, re-scheduling resident’s appointments and follows up with consults
  • Preparing for clinic visit
  • Monitoring both inpatient and outpatient appointments for areas of responsibility
  • Verifying and updating demographics;
  • Maintains accurate bed census;
  • Completes quarterly census report; processing all emergency and non-emergency transfers to other VA facilities or private hospitals
  • Compiles and transmits PI data to QM, opens/closes MDS
  • Maintains care plan schedule
  • Enters work orders/turn in equipment
  • Orders resident education pamphlets; updates unit forms and scans documents to CPRS

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

EXPERIENCE:  One year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-4) in the Federal Service.  Experience at this level, the Medical Support Assistant performs a full range of duties. Such qualifying experience includes: scheduling appointments in a clinical setting; knowledge of basic medical terminology; operate computerized programs and databases; identifying customer's concerns; work independently for a wide variety of duties, including setting priorities and coordination work.

To be creditable, the experience must have demonstrated the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) associated with Medical Support Assistant responsibilities.

  • KNOWLEDGE OF MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY
  • KNOWLEDGE OF PROCEDURES, ORDERING DIAGNOSTIC EXAMS, APPOINTMENTS, DIRECTING PATIENTS
  • ABILITY TO UTILIZE COMPUTER EQUIPMENT AND SOFTWARE
  • ABILITY TO COMMUNICATE ORALLY AND IN WRITING
  • ABILITY TO CONSOLIDATE HEALTH RECORD, FORMS, AND SEQUENCE

EDUCATION:  Must have successfully completed four (4) years above high school.  This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university and the level of course work must have been equivalent to at least the junior-and senior year levels of a baccalaureate program, or Bachelor's degree.
