National Ocean Service is a scientific and technical organization whose mission is to preserve and enhance the nation's coastal resources and ecosystems and advocates coastal and ocean stewardship. It achieves this through scientific research; monitoring, observing, and predicting scientific phenomena; preserving and restoring ocean and coastal areas; establishing and enhancing state and local governments coastal resources; mapping and charting; and responding to hazardous substance spills.
This position is in National Ocean Service, Office of National Marine Sanctuaries, Silver Spring, MD. The individual selected for this position will ensure the Office of National Marine Sanctuaries (ONMS) carries out the administrative and program management policies, rules and regulations of the National Marine Sanctuaries Act.
This position will be filled under the DOC Alternative Personnel System (CAPS). This system replaced the Federal GS pay plan and structure. Under CAPS, positions are classified by career, pay plan, and pay band. The ZA-5 is equivalent to the GS-15. This position is also being advertised under announcement number NOS-NMSP-2013-0006 (Open to Status Candidates).
