This position is located at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). There are three Divisions within NIAID that have basic, applied and clinical programs supported by extramural funding mechanisms. They are the Division of Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (DAIDS); the Division of Allergy, Immunology, and Transplantation (DAIT); and the Division of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (DMID). These Divisions use a variety of funding mechanisms to support a broad array of research initiated by individual investigators, as well as NIAID-solicited research programs, including cooperative research centers, multidisciplinary program projects, and cooperative multi-center clinical trials. If selected for this position you will serve as a Health Specialist in any of the three Divisions within NIAID. You will be responsible for the planning, coordination, and implementation of activities for assigned research programs and the management and evaluation of grant applications. If selected for this position, you will perform the following duties:
- Planning, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating programs and initiatives in the assigned specialty area of research.
- Reviewing data and progress reports, and implementing corrective actions needed to achieve adequate research progress.
- Participating in the development of Program Announcements, Request for Applications, and Request for Proposals in areas of research.
- Planning and executing analytic research projects and researching the quality of methodologies and measures pertinent to the assessment and summarization of the health status of Americans.
- Assisting and working collaboratively with Project Scientist/Program Officer to support the management of research resources, technical administration and programmatic evaluation of funded grants, contracts, and other activities.
- Assisting staff with various grants and/or contract related administrative activities.

You must possess a degree in a major study in an academic field related to the health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position.
For the GS-12
In addition to meeting the basic education requirements you must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following types of tasks: conducting health research; managing and evaluating grant applications; monitoring public health contracts, grants or cooperative agreements; preparing comprehensive reports of study results; assessing the adequacy and quality of data from studies; preparing funding plans and evaluating progress reports for funded projects; assisting in the initial scientific and administrative review of program project grant and training grant applications.
For the GS-13
In addition to meeting the basic education requirements you must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following types of tasks: planning, coordinating and implementing activities for research programs; managing and evaluating grant applications; monitoring the status of project applications and awards; monitoring awards of public health contracts, grants, and cooperative agreement; coordinating the work of other professional staff; assisting in managing research resources; assisting staff with grant related administrative activities including preparing funding plans and evaluating progress reports for funded projects; conducting initial scientific and administrative review of program project grant and training grant applications.
