Reclamation is a contemporary water management agency. Reclamation is best known for Hoover Dam on the Colorado River, Grand Coulee Dam on the Columbia River and Folsom Dam on the American River. DUTIES:

  • Conducts tours at Hoover Dam with visitors representing multi-cultural, educational and international backgrounds.
  • Delivers lectures and answers questions concerning various features of the Dam and power plant.
  • Studies and reviews a variety of printed material and statistical data pertaining to Hoover Dam operations.
  • Circulates throughout the Visitor Center and Exhibit Building providing information regarding the Colorado River basin, structures within, exhibits and building displays, tour and ticket information, and other general information as requested.
  • Provides customer assistance in preliminary first aid, and securing appropriate medical assistance.

To qualify at the GS-04 level your resume must reflect six months of general experience (defined below) and six months of specialized experience (defined below); OR, successful completion of 2 years of education above high school that included at least 12 semester hours in courses such as American history, science, and/or public speaking.

To qualify at the GS-05 level your resume must reflect 1 year of specialized experience (defined below); OR, successful completion of a full 4 year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree (a) with major study in fields such as American history, science, and/or public speaking OR (b) that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours in such subjects.

General Experience: Experience providing customer service to the public on a recurring basis.  Examples of general experience are greeting visitors, disseminating information, or providing directions.

Specialized Experience: Experience that involved oral presentation of historical, scientific, or program information to groups; or developing and/or revising technical, historical, or scientific information for oral presentation to groups.


This vacancy announcement allows substituting education for experience. You must submit a copy of your college transcript (unofficial copy is acceptable) to support your education if you are substituting education for experience. Transcripts must include the name of the college or university and date the degree was conferred.

Foreign Education
: To receive credit for education completed outside the United States, applicants must show proof that the education has been submitted to a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign educational credentials and such education has been deemed at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education programs.

HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:

Category rating and selection procedures will be used for evaluating this position. If you meet the basic qualification requirements, your on-line responses to the vacancy assessment questionnaire will be used to determine the quality and extent of your experience, education, training, etc., for placement in one of the following categories: 1) Best Qualified, 2) Well Qualified and 3) Qualified. Qualified candidates will be assigned a numerical score on a scale of 70-100 and Veterans with preference will be placed at the top of their respective category. The assessment questionnaire will take you approximately <40> minutes to complete.

Applicants will be further evaluated on the following Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)through your resume and responses to the online questions.

KSA #1. Ability to retain and present a large number of facts and historical information in an easily understood manner by visitors of divergent ethnic, cultural and educational backgrounds.

KSA #2. Knowledge of customer service practices in order to maintain composure, resolve problems, reach mutual agreement on the solution with the customer, and express empathy for customer's situation.

KSA #3. Ability to keep control of a large number of visitors in order to ensure the safety of the visiting public and power plant workforce.

Working Conditions: The position requires a variety of physical demands such as constant standing/walking throughout the facility up to 3 miles daily and 30 minutes per presentation on asphalt; constant use of both hands and arms in reaching/handling/grasping/fingering while using microphone, pointing to static displays, motioning and moving visitors; constantly speaking to visitors; and constant use of sight and hearing to respond to questions, observe unusual behavior, and ensure safety of the group.

Pre-employment Physical: If selected, you are required to obtain and successfully pass a pre-employment physical examination by a licensed physician certifying to your ability to perform the duties of the position. This is not required if a comparable examination was required for placement in your current position and was completed within the last year; however, verifiable documentation of a comparable physical is required. Periodic (annual or biennial) physical examinations are required to be successfully passed for continued employment.

Promotion Potential: If you are selected at the lower grade, promotion may be made at a later date without further competition. WHAT TO EXPECT NEXT:
