You will act as Utilization Management coordinator responsible for developing and implementing a Utilization Management program based on reimbursement of hospital costs by length of stay, Relative Case Mix Index, Program Payment System, according to USA MEDCOM, Utilization Management goals and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organization standards. You will be responsible for implementation of Interqual, Milliman and Robertson screening criteria to review and document care and procedures to determine the most appropriate source of care.
You will develop the Utilization Management Plan, establishing both short and long-term goals. You will evaluate expenditures of Supplemental Care funds to ensure admissions to civilian facilities are appropriate and necessary. You will coordinate multidisciplinary case management meeting as defined in the Utilization Management Plan. Cases are evaluated utilizing criteria for referral to area TRICARE Case Manager.
You will assist in identifying strategies intended to improve provider access, reduce administrative burdens for Military Health Services System beneficiaries, and improve the cost effectiveness of the civilian/military health care delivery system.
You will conduct community liaison with local, state, and federal agencies responsible for financing alternatives which Military Health Services System beneficiaries may be entitled to receive.

Degree: Applicants MUST have a degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant. .
Licensure/Certification: Applicants MUST have active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Licensure information must be cited on resume to be considered for this position.
Specialized Experience: One year of experience in the same or similar work equivalent to at least the next lower level (GS-10) requiring application of the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the position being filled. Candidates for this position must clearly demonstrate in their resume that they possess specialized experience as a Registered Nurse which involves health care management principles and techniques; ability to communicate with health care provider at all levels; provide professional assistance to health care providers in identifying patients needs; knowledge of a wide range of nursing concepts, principles and practices and extended experience with medical practices and procedures to analyze the full scope of problems associated with providing the best possible care.
Education Substitution: If an applicant meets the basic requirements for Education and Registration/Licensure but fails to meet the required one (1) year of specialized experience; Completion of all requirements for a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) or 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education can be substituted at the GS-11 Level.Only degrees from an accredited college or university recognized by the Department of Education are acceptable to meet positive education requirements or to substitute education for experience.
