JOB SUMMARY:

Civilian employees serve a vital role in supporting the Army mission.  They provide the skills that are not readily available in the military, but crucial to support military operations.  The Army integrates the talents and skills of its military and civilian members to form a Total Army.

About the Position:
McAlester Army Ammunition Plant (MCAAP) was originally commissioned as the Naval Ammunition Depot McAlester on May 20, 1943 and began its first production in September 1943.  In October 1977, the naval facility was transferred to the Army under the Single Manager for Conventional Ammunition Act.  Red River Munitions Center (Red River, Texas) was transferred to MCAAP in October 1999.  MCAAP is a government-owned/government-operated facility.  Our operating hours are from 6:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday.  We are closed on federal holidays.  The mission of MCAAP is to produce and renovate quality conventional missile ammunition and ammunition-related components, perform engineering and product assurance in support of production, and receive, store, ship, demilitarize and dispose of conventional and missile ammunition and related items.

  • Receive, issue, ship, store and rewarehouse a wide variety of ammunition, explosives, guided missiles, propellants, and rockets.
  • Receive, unload and process incoming shipments while verifying all items received against receiving documents.
  • Inspect warehouse and contents for conditions contributing to deterioration of ammunition.
  • Operate electric or gasoline powered forklifts capable of lifting loads weighing up to 12,000 pounds.
  • Store items for maximum convenience of handling, ease of movement and compatibility, protection from damage, deterioration and pilferage.

SCREEN OUT ELEMENT:

To qualify for this position you must show the ability to perform the duties as a Missile Materials Handler (Forklift Operator), WG-6511-06, without more than normal supervision

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:

  • Knowledge of Ammunition Items, Explosives and Ammunition Components
  • Knowledge of Ammunition Warehouse Operations
  • Ability to use tools, equipment, and measuring instruments 
  • Ability to Interpret and Apply Instructions
  • Safety

PHYSICAL EFFORTS:

Work is performed on hard surfaces and require standing, bending, stooping and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions.  Frequently lifts and carries items weighing in excess of 45 pounds.  Physical effort is utilized in moving hands, feet and legs to operate and turn vehicles with trailer attachments.

WORK CONDITIONS:

Work is performed inside and outside and subject unheated igloos or magazines in all weather conditions.  Frequently works on cement floors and work may be performed  in dirty, damp and drafty areas.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Must obtain and maintain an Arms, Ammunition and Explosives Security Certification and Screening.  
  • Valid stateside driver's license is required.  
  • Pre-employment and annual medical examinations are required.
  • Must obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
  • This position is covered by the Civilian Drug Abuse Testing Program and requires you to sign a DA Form 5019-R, "Condition of Employment for certain civilian positions identified as critical under the Drug Abuse Testing Program,” or a memorandum of understanding as well as submit to pre-employment and random drug testing.
  • This position is subject to the Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 which makes it a felony for anyone who has been convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence to ship, transport, possess, or receive firearms or ammunition. Civilian personnel of the Department of Defense are not exempt from this provision.
