This position is located in the Education Department of the National Museum of the Marine Corps (NMMC), Marine Corps Base, Quantico, VA. The essence of the education program is to make NMMC a community partner by ensuring that the museum's resources are available to schools, family groups, and the greater community.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • You must be a US Citizen.

  • Suitable for Federal employment as determined by background investigation.
  • Selectee may be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Requires occasional travel and evening and weekend work.

  • Develop, produce, deliver, and evaluate specific educational programs for the National Museum of the Marine Corps
  • Manage school and/or general family educational programs assigned by the Chief of Education
  • Ensure educational objectives are incorporated into permanent, temporary and traveling exhibitions

Basic Requirement:

A degree that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours in a field related to the work of this position, of which at least nine semester hours must have been in education courses.

OR

A combination of education and experience with at least 24 semester hours in a field related to the work of the position to be filled, of which at least nine semester hours must have been in education courses, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The experience must reflect the level and kind described in C below.

OR

Four years of experience that demonstrated a thorough understanding of the principles and practices underlying the work of this series. This experience must have been of such character and diversity to demonstrate that the applicant possesses an understanding of the field comparable to that normally acquired through successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university.

OR

At least one full academic year of professional teaching experience. This experience is defined as full and primary responsibility, under general supervision, for instruction of assigned students in an accredited school or institution. This includes responsibility for preparing and presenting lessons and for evaluating students' progress, including a determination of the students' success or failure according to established criteria. Serving in an assistant capacity to a professor without the authority to determine the students' success or failure to meet course requirements does not meet this criterion.

Minimum Qualifications:

Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to successfully perform the duties of the position.

To qualify for Education Program Specialist GS-1720-07, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

  • Experience assisting with educational plans that meet the requirements of the Commonwealth of Virginia's Standards of Learning and the state of Maryland's Maryland School Assessment
  • Experience assisting with creating age appropriate learning experiences based on exhibits and artifacts
  • Experience using educational tools including multimedia and portable education programs under direct supervision

OR

  • 1 year of graduate-level education or superior academic achievement

To qualify for Education Program Specialist GS-1720-09, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

  • Experience designing educational plans that meet the requirements of the Commonwealth of Virginia's Standards of Learning and the state of Maryland's Maryland School Assessment
  • Experience creating segments of age appropriate learning programs based on exhibits and artifacts
  • Experience using educational tools including multimedia and portable education programs

OR

  • 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree

To qualify for Education Program Specialist GS-1720-11, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

  • Experience designing and developing lesson plans that meet the requirements of the Commonwealth of Virginia's Standards of Learning and the state of Maryland's Maryland School Assessment
  • Experience creating age appropriate learning experiences based on exhibits and artifacts
  • Experience developing educational programs that impact a Museum
  • Experience constructing a curriculum for Museum audiences using educational tools (e.g., multimedia)

OR

  • 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree

REQUIREMENTS:
