JOB SUMMARY:

Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) is the nation’s fully accredited federal school of medicine and graduate school of nursing. Its education, research and consultation programs are unique, related directly to military medicine, tropical diseases, disaster medicine, military medical readiness and adaptation to extreme environments. We prepare outstanding scientists and health care practitioners for careers in service to the nation.

This position is located in the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS), Office of the Vice President of Research. The mission of the Office of Research is to facilitate, encourage and support the research activities of the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) faculty and students.

As a Grants Management Specialist you will be responsible for a variety of duties with these being the Major Duties:

  • Award and administer intramural grants.
  • Handle non-standard agreements such as Memorandum of Agreements with foreign countries.
  • Respond to inquiries from prospective and current grantees.
  • Ensure that all grant applications comply with established policies, procedures and regulations. 
  • Clarify the terms and conditions of grant awards, including the level of funding and the specific project dates.

GS-07 Level:

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the (GS-05) grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector providing clerical support for intramural research programs. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.  Examples of qualifying experience include:

  • Announcing programs and soliciting applications or proposals for funding under assistance awards.
  • Preparing, processing, issuing, and tracking grants/assistance awards and compliance with reporting requirements.
  • Ensuring recipients of Federal funds comply with Government’s environmental and other requirements.

 Education may be substituted for specialized experience as follows:

·         You have successfully completed one full year of graduate education.

Or

·         You have completed a bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement.

Or

·         You have a combination of education and experience as described above that equates to one year of experience.

 

 

GS-09 Level:

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the (GS-07) grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector providing providing administrative support for intramural research programs. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.  Examples of qualifying experience include:

  • Awarding and administering grants, cooperative agreements, or other related instruments.
  • Preparing, processing, issuing, and tracking grants/assistance awards and compliance with reporting requirements.
  • Monitoring, assessing, and ensuring awardees comply with all terms and conditions of award.

 

 Education may be substituted for specialized experience as follows:

 

·         You have a master's or equivalent graduate degree.

Or

·         You have successfully completed two years of progressively higher level graduate      education leading to a master's degree.

Or

·         You have a LL.B. or J.D., if related to the position being filled.

Or

·         You have a combination of education and experience as described above that   equates to one year of experience.

 

GS-11 Level:

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the (GS-09) grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector providing administrative and analytical support for the management, planning and review of intramural research programs. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.  Examples of qualifying experience include:

  • Designing, developing, implementing, and interpreting grants/assistance management policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Reviewing and evaluating adequacy of grants/assistance policies and procedures.
  • Overseeing, reviewing, analyzing, and evaluating grants/assistance applications, plans, and estimates.

 

 Education may be substituted for specialized experience as follows:

 

·         You have successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.

Or

·         You have successfully completed three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree.

 

Or

 

·         You have a LL.M if it is related to the position being filled.

 

Or

 

·         You have a combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience.

REQUIREMENTS:
