    The selectee will serve as Security Specialist in the Security Clearance Division, Clearance and Access Branch. Typical work assignments include:

    • Providing guidance and training for security specialists related to security protocols and operational procedures; providing expertise in the operations of classification management, access control, the development of physical security facility plans, and administrative security; and sensitive compartmented information (SCI) program as it relates to personnel security and physical security matters;
    • Making recommendations for changing existing policy and for implementing new policy; developing access control policies and procedures; developing guidelines and procedures for special access approval;
    • Coordinating the review and inspection of facilities, surveys and operations; evaluating existing security practices; and correcting deficiencies;

    GS13: You qualify for the GS-13 level (starting salary $89,033) if you possess one year of specialized experience at the GS-12 level performing duties such as: program management as it relates to 3 of the 5 program areas (i.e., Physical Security, Information Access Control, Administrative Security, Classification Management and Sensitive Compartmented Information) programs.

     

    Time-in-Grade: Current Federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the Federal service. Qualifications Must Be Met The qualification requirements listed above must be met by the closing date of this announcement.


    Conditions of Employment If selected for this position, you will be required to:

    • Obtain and maintain a top secret clearance. Completion of a full field investigation is required before appointment.
    • Submit to a drug test prior to your appointment and random drug testing while you occupy the position.
    • Certify that you have registered with the Selective Service System or are exempt from having to do so, if you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959.
    • Undergo occasional travel.

    HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:

    • Knowledge of security policies, procedures, directives, and regulations impacting the administration of various security program areas (i.e., special investigations, access control, operations security, classification management, administrative security, physical security, and sensitive compartmented information), in order to provide advice, expertise and guidance to management.
    • Skill to analyze security legislation, and new or revised security regulations, and evaluate and make recommendations concerning the expected impact.
    • Ability to collect and summarize analysis of information concerning program or deficiencies, and develop plans and recommendations to enhance security programs for management evaluation.
