If you like remote and rugged conditions, extended travel and overnight camping, then becoming a wildland firefighter may be for you. The Department of the Interior, Fish and Wildlife Servcie, is looking for temporary employees to work on a variety of wildland firefighting crews in Montana. Work may include working as a crew member on any of the following types of crews: Hand; Helitack (helicopter); Engine; Prescribed. For more information on Crew Types, click here.
These positions are located at Fort Peck/Roy/Jordan, MT (Charles M. Russell NWR).
Employment in these positions are not-to-exceed 1 year that will total less than 1040 hours (6 months), excluding overtime in a service year. Incumbent may be terminated or placed in intermittent status (no pre-scheduled tour of duty) at any time.
Positions at the GS-5 level have been identified as one of the key fire management positions under the Interagency Fire Program Management (IFPM) Standard. This position has been categorized as a Senior Firefighter (SFF), and is subject to meeting the minimum qualification standards for IFPM prior to being placed into the position.
