JOB SUMMARY:

Civilian employees serve a vital role in supporting the Army mission.  They provide the skills that are not readily available in the military, but crucial to support military operations.  The Army integrates the talents and skills of its military and civilian members to form a Total Army.

About the Position:

This job provides the opportunity to support the mission of the Corpus Christi Army Depot; which is to overhaul, repair, modify, retrofit, test and modernize helicopters, engines and components for all services and foreign military customers. The Corpus Christi Army Depot (CCAD) is the Army’s Center of Industrial and Technical Excellence for Rotary Wing Aviation Maintenance and is the world’s largest helicopters overhaul and repair facility. CCAD serves as the depot training base for active duty Army, National Guard, Reserve and foreign military personnel. We also provide worldwide on-site maintenance services, aircraft crash analysis, lubricating oil analysis, and chemical, metallurgical and training support. Positions include those providing support to the maintenance of helicopters in a variety of shops or in an office setting.

As a professional engineer, serves as systems design engineer requiring the application of any one or more professional engineering disciplines, i.e., mechanical, electrical, industrial or electronics. Provide centralized project planning, concept development, design, and commissioning of new, complex production systems projects. Coordinates installation and operation of branch designed equipment.

Specialized experience: To Qualify applicants must possess one (1) year of specialized experience directly related to this occupation equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal Service or equivalent pay band. Specialized experience is defined as experience in 1) applying knowledge of the physical sciences and mathematics of engineering 2) applying concepts, principles, and practices applicable to the full range of duties concerned with the design, layout, construction/manufacture, maintenance and repair of a large variety of industrial equipment and mechanical/electrical/electronic systems. 3) work experience to develop design criteria for a

variety of unique test facility/tooling systems for projects.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities) in the following areas:

·         Knowledge of engineering theories, concepts, principles, standards and methods.

·         Ability to prepare, present, and evaluate plans, designs, reports, and correspondence.

·         Ability to coordinate and monitor planning and design which encompass phases of project work.

·         Skill in  providing Team Leadership on Special Projects as needed.

·         Ability to Communicate orally and in writing.


Basic Education/Qualifications

The INTERDISCIPLINARY ENGINEER GS-0830/0850/0855/0896-12 occupation has specific educational requirements which apply to all positions.

Education above the high school level must have been completed in a U.S. college, university, or other educational institution that has been accredited by one of the accrediting agencies or associations recognized by the Secretary, U.S. Department of Education.

You have to attach a copy of your transcripts to your application package under the document type 'Transcripts'.

A. Have completed a professional engineering degree in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering

curriculum. NOTE: THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts for verification of your education).

OR

B. Have completed a professional engineering degree which includes differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering

science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts for verification of your education).

OR

C. Have a combination of education and experience. I have college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying

professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering AND I have a professional engineering

license/registration. Those applicants who achieved such registration by means other than written test (e.g., State grandfather or eminence provisions) are eligible only for positions that are within or closely related to the specialty field of their registration. OR

D. Have a combination of education and experience. I have college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying

professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering AND I have successfully passed the

engineer-in-Training (EIT) examination. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts for verification of your education).

OR

E. Have a combination of education and experience. I have college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying

professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering AND Successful completion of at least

90 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements. The courses must be fully acceptable toward meeting the

requirements of a professional engineering curriculum as described in Answer A above. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts for verification of your education).

OR

F. Have a combination of education and experience. I have college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying

professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering AND Successful completion of a

curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in engineering technology or in an appropriate professional field, e.g., physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in

lieu of a degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily there should be either an

established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions. (NOTE: You must provide

appropriate documentation to support your eligibility under these criteria; AND, you must attach a copy of your transcripts for verification of your education).

 

Only degrees from an accredited college or university recognized by the Department of Education are acceptable to meet positive education requirements or to substitute education for experience.
